They can, it depends on a few situations though. I had mine pierced and it got infected so I had to have it cut out and now I have a small scar that you can only see from the side if you look right at my nose. Some people don't scar at all if they simply take it out because no extra trauma occurred damaging the skin. And others have huge scars if a serious problem occurs. It can also vary by how you heal, if you scar easily the odds are that you will have a tiny scar that most wont notice but if you don't normally scar you might not even know it was there.

There is scarring with all piercings and usually there will be slightly visible evidence that its been pierced, however scarring can be minimized greatly.
If you go to a reputable piercer, and have the piercing done with high quality, sterile tools and with proper material and fitted jewelry, if you take care of the piercing and follow good aftercare, scarring will be nothing more than a white dot later on.
Things that can make scarring highly visible include how its pierced (piercing guns are never safe, always use needles), if it becomes infected, if you are prone to forming keloids, if serious trauma is caused to the piercing and other things.
Basically, get it done the right way by a professional piercer and take care of it. If you're good to your piercings, they will be good to you now and when you take them out to close up.

I guess it depends on each individual... I have heard of a type of scar that overproduces scar tissue and even the smallest scars can get pretty nasty. I think they are called Keloids or something like that. Personally, I can tell you that I pierced my own nose and I didn't like how it looked on my right nostril, so I pierced my left nostril. When I decided to remove my ring, which was after a year, I had no scars, on either of my nostrils... Not even like big, open pores.

i have my nose pierced. the first time i had it done i ended up having to take it out bc i had surgery and i didnt even think about putting it back in until i left the hospital. it closed and i had no scar. however, some people are diffrent but the piercing hole is so small that regardless if you scar or not, noone will notice.

The answer is yes. I pierced mine 7 yrs ago and it's been out for 2. You will have a scar. If you want the perfect complection its a no no. Otherwise the scar isnt a big deal. Rarely do people know that I had it done unless they new me when I had it in. It's only the size of the nose stud itself.

if you arent sure that you would want to wear your nose ring all the time, you can always use a clear retainer for it. no one will be able to tell you have it in unless they are extremely close to you. but my advice is, if you dont think that you will keep your piercing in, then dont get one. ive had mine for 8 years and i love it and dont plan on ever taking it out. but if you do get one and then for some reason decide to take it out, then yes, you will have a small scar or lump where it used to be.
