Congratulations on yur new bird!
the bird not being interested is normal since he needs time to get settled. Now, for the bobbing of the head. This is normal phenomenom, since yur bird is regurgitating food, which proves that yur bird has eaten. Also, many birds move their head around in their sleep if they are just getting used to their new surroundings.

You also mentioned that he opens his beak but no sound is coming out. This is also normal since he is not chirping. When a bird wants to chirp, it moves its head slightly and raises its neck. Your bird is nearly panting since alot of activity can cause over heating.

You do not need to take yur bird any where yet. However, if any time in the future you have any doubts, I strongly recommend you visit an avian vet. Trust me, I have been through all this since I am a parakeet owner myself!!!!!!!!!!1

Hi there. Looks like you have your hands full. Settling in takes a week or two. Parakeets and many other animals are generally not predjudice to color, but sometimes albinos are rejected. It is the survival of the fittest theory. Those that are genetically weaker die due to abandonment, rejection or even through being attacked. Your diet for these birds is very important. Things have really changed in recent years. All seed diets have been found to lead to malnutrition which can compromise the immune system and the birds then become susceptible to illness and disease. So, a good pellet food, limiting seeds to 10% and fruits and veggies 10-20% really helps. Some great pellet foods are made by Roudybush,Zupreem, Harrisons. Avoid avocados and chocolate which are known to be toxic to birds and many other animals.I'm wondering if your new bird is weaned or not. Since these are flock birds, you are flock leader and they will follow your lead. Eat or pretend to eat the foods you introduce and act enthusiastically. This really works. Sounds weird. Also talk to them like they are small children or babies. Now if the new one won't eat, you might buy a small bag of bird formula and feed the bird with a small spoon which is messy but easier than with a syringe.Another option would be to offer the bird some baby food like apple sauce, peaches, even turkey with the spoon and act like this is so yummy and sample some using your own spoon. Sitting on the bottom of the cage is generally not a good sign, but then again you may have a younger bird than you think. Most birds need 10-12 hours of darkness a day and the very young sleep frequently. Sometimes they will fall off their perches.I believe that you can overcome this hurdle.Buying birds at some pet stores can be tricky. Because of the conditions and over crowding, passing disease can be a problem. Try these techniques and use your good judgment to decide if returning the bird is an option. Many breeders recommend keeping new birds from others for about 10 days to ensure there are no illnesses that can be passed on to other birds. I hope things improve soon. Let us know if you can as to how things progress. Best wishes. .

evrything you described sounds like stress and mostly fear.. did you put them into the same cage? could be fear of being in a new area and in a cage that already has another bird in it. Interest by the older bird does not always mean that it wants to be friends. how long did you observe the new bird in the store before you bought it? try seperate cages or take it back and "watch" the other birds behavior before you buy a replacement. It should not be trying to avoid the others in the cage or hiding on the bottom.
also, buying a companion bird is not always a good thing. If you plan to interact with the bird, it is going to "bond" to the other bird and want nothing much to do with you.

In my adventure, parakeets do greater efficient in even numbers with an equivalent male to lady ratio so as that they are able to style pairs. in case you comprehend your parakeets gender, attempt purely getting between the different gender. objective for comparable length and age if in any respect achieveable. And confident, in case you probably did no longer improve the cage, the unique parakeet would sense that his area is being intruded upon. Get a sparkling, greater advantageous cage, and introduce the hot and unique parakeet to it on a similar time. there could be some bickering before everything, yet except there is definitely injury being carried out, enable them to establish themselves earlier you do something. besides the undeniable fact that, if everyone seems to be being fairly aggressive and harming the different, separate them at cutting-edge.

i don't know to much about birds, but I have had several budgies. This does not sound like normal behavior. You need to get him to a vet ASAP.

I'd let him settle in before wondering about his behavior, plus he just met a brand new bird.
