Due to some last minute Tax law changes tby Congress, and added review of returns claiming the Earned Income Credit there is a delay in issueing refunds

A lot of people on this board have said that they were suppose to get a refund deposit on Jan 26, and then they got a code and it said there was a delay in processing. It may be because of what we heard that the IRS pulled 72,000 returns in Jan to review because of the new laws getting passed right at the end of the year. They were also carefully reviewing anyone claiming EIC this year since there have been so many violations in others claiming it that were not suppose to.

About 2 years ago when we filed, we thought we were getting processed and had a general refund date (not a direct deposit date yet) and then suddenly an error code went up and our refund was delayed. When we called the IRS they said that there was an error on our return so the system kicked it back out. They said that it could of been an incorrect SS number for one of our kids---that we transposed a number or something, but that there was some kind of error so it needed longer to process. Within 10 days we had our refund though. Hopefully, by Feb 16th when the IRS does another direct deposit, you will finally have your money in your account. There must of been some kind of glitch, but I really don't think it was because your name was not on the account. Check with your bank to be sure though.

No way to tell what it was. If the bank rejected the direct deposit, the IRS will just send you a paper check instead. There are also thousands of returns being examined closely this year before the refunds go out, so you might have fallen into that group. If you are getting EIC that's probably what happened. The third possibility is that the IRS computers identified something in your return that looked strange, and they're examining it.

If you don't have your refund in a couple weeks, call the IRS and try to talk to a person. They should be able to tell you why you're seeing the hold-up in your refund.

The 26th of January was a Friday so the transaction wouldn't even be recognized at your bank until Monday afternoon, then as you mentioned there is a name change involved so the idiots at the bank have some more work to do. Just follow up at your bank on Monday morning (and sound upset) and they will probably get everything in order for you.

Have you checked the IRS website to see if they give you a reference number. That information would be helpful to try and help you. I am in the same boat and have been online researching for 2 weeks.
