i saw them on display, they are colums/pillars about 6 ft in height, plastic they plug in and are illuminated from the inside. would like to buy.

I haven't seen any lamps like the ones you've described. If I were investigating, though, I'd start by looking in a store that sells only lamps and lighting fixtures. Check your yellow pages if you're not sure.
I'd also check with Rooms to Go. They carry a large variety of furniture and accessories, and if they don't have this item on the floor, it may be in one of their catalogs.
I would even "google" lamps + column or lamps + pillar, or a combination of those terms to see if anything pops up.
If you saw them on display, could you contact the business and ask for the name of the manufacturer or designer?

eh on the east coast there a company called Rexel, they have a lot of things you may like try Google'n em.
