if ur system working fine, then dont install it yet.
wait for about a year, or 6 months, or when almost everyone has it.

I would say dont install it. The program uses more memory and hard drive space. It is also complicated to use. You have to learn new commands and terms. The internet is so annoying. It pops up a thing for you to confirm everything you click before it will load. The start menu is complicated too. It has many things you have to click before getting what you need. Also, it is more for the unexperienced computer user since everything you do, it pops up and asks you a question, or it asks you questions and does things in a round about way for you. I wouldnt install it until I made sure it was going to become popular with everyone. The old saying is right in this point. Dont mend it just yet.
Good Luck!

1.) Your computer is working fine with XP
2.) Your computer is not new (it wouldn't have a history with XP otherwise, right?)
3.) Vista only works on the new computers out now - and MS has lowballed the requirements.
4.) It's highly likely that Vista won't work on your computer, and if it works at all.... XP will seem better.

So... I'd try to sell the disk / return it. If you can't and you want to use Vista at some point, hold onto the disk for a year and save up for a new computer.

The thing is... with Vista being pushed out there so much and it's requirements so high... a lot of people are jumping out of the MS Windows world completely - to Linux.

If you're considering Vista, download and burn a copy of Ubuntu or Kubuntu - you can even try it without installing! Just reboot your computer with the CD in the drive and K/Ubuntu is loaded into your RAM!

Play around with it - you can't mess it up and who knows... you might like it.

I can't. I personally think the OS is rushed. Also, I think it's Microsoft's way of pushing the hardware curve to keep Hardware manufacturers happy since most people with less than 1.0 GHz processors will have to buy a whole new machine in about two years when Microsoft and other vendors starts to make programs not run on XP any longer.

Short of that, there's no reason why Vista is out that's significant. It's approach to security is a step backward compared to XP, the search functions could have been implemented in an XP Service Pack, and the 3d interface is simply dubious. I won't pick it up until I have to.

Well if you already have the disc why don't you install Vista on a separate partition. This way you can keep your current operating system and at the same time see if Vista is as good as Microsoft claims to. My opinion is besides eye candy and 3d-desktop Vista didn't come with any major change from XP. (Microsoft is already working on SP1 for it which will be available at the end of this summer).

I downloaded the beta version for testing a while ago and its a little bit buggy, but the problems are being ironed out fast. I ran it on a very basic setup. Whatever hardware I put in the machine it found via the online driver util. ( apart from a 56k modem) but who uses them now. It is "pretty" and does the job. Stick with XP for the time being though. I said I would never like XP, but soon changed my mind. People will say Vista is no good, but give it 6 months or so and opinions will change.

I do like windows vista, the entertainment side of computing is great on there, but there are a lot of extras you may be tempted to buy.

On the other hand a lot of applications designed to work on xp don't seem to work on it. But then I am trying to load new things on a system that has only ever been vista existing programs may be ok.

I would personally install it, (it's great exploring features if you are into the whole multimedia experience).

Hi if your computer to run on Vista properly your computer has to have parts as new as the newest dual processor. At first when you use Vista its hard but after a while you get used to using Vista and you would think that xp is s h i t compared to Vista.

I just bought a new laptop that has Windows Vista and I love it. So far, I've had no problems, however, if I didn't already have it on my computer I wouldn't install it.

Set it up as a dual boot so that you can run both Vista and XP.
