I need to study. So who knows either the preterite forms of poner.
preterite forms of influir, leer, or contribuir. And lastly does anyone know what past progressive is, and give an example of a sentence using it. This IS NOT home work. It really isn't. Its a good way for me to study without my text book.

Pretérito Perfecto poner, influir, leer y contribuir:
he puesto, influido, leído, contribuido.
has puesto
ha puesto
hemos puesto
habéis puesto
han puesto

Past progressive? Do you mean pretérito imperfecto?
Pretérito imperfecto is made as follows:
cantaba, cantabas, cantaba, cantábamos, cantábais, cantaban.
comía, comías, comía, comíamos, comíais, comían.
vivía, vivías, vivía, vivíamos, vivíais, vivian.

It´s used when:
- you describe in the past:
Málaga era una ciudad con muy tranquila. Pero ahora hay mucho ruido.
Málaga used to be a very quite city. But now is very loud.

- you describe actions that you used to do:
Cuando era pequeño iba a nadar, jugaba con mis amigos, leía comics...
When I was a child, I used to go swimming, I used to play with my friends, read comics...

- you used it when you describe 2 actions: one is longer (pret. imperfecto) and the other one is short (indefinido)

Cuando me duchaba sonó el teléfono.
When I was having a shower, the phone rung.

Well, hope it helps you!
Mucha suerte!

Poner is to put or to place. In the preterite, it changes to 'pus' to get:
puse
pusiste
puso
pusimos
pusisteis
pusieron

Leer in the preterite you have to watch the y's.
leí
leíste
leyó
leímos
leísteis
leyeron (no accent)

Buena suerte
