I would suggest going to a professional only because i have worked in a beauty supply store and beleive me i have see so many mess ups its not even funny. For dark brown hair it is so much harder to go lighter than it would be for light brown hair to go lighter. There so much stuff you would have to know if you did it yourself like if your hair is virgin hair then you can use a regular hair dye but you have to see what base color you would need or if you just wanted to bleach it and dye over it with a color. Well go luck and have fun.

I'm naturally blonde and I dye my hair a few shades lighter myself. I use Belle Colour but there are a lot of good ones. I would agree with an earlier answer on black hair though. See a hairdresser, you can go orange a friend of mine did and she paid out a heck of a lot more money getting it sorted out.

I was in exactly the same situation last month! My hair is so dark and was getting fed up of it. Chose Loreal feria 3D, so easy to apply and smells real good too. think i went for french espresso - can get it from boots. My hair looks a lighter now - medium brown. Hope this helps you!

Seriously-get it done professionally. If you dont have much money, go to your local Technical College who have Cosmetology programs and will work on your hair for next to nothing. If you try to lighten your hair from home you will get unpredictable results (different results every time you do it). Also as hair lightens, it goes from black to RED to ORANGE to YELLOW to WHITE, then you really need a toner to change the LIGHTENED hair to a pretty hair COLOR. Good luck!

Honestly, I would have that done professionally. If cost is an issue, why not contact your local college or hairdressers and ask about prices for models - most hairdressers have a model night where you can get your hair done at a fraction of the cost - obviously, it will be done by a trainee but supervised.

Garnier 100% never fails for me - brilliant product. Personally I like the pillar box red, but they do such beautiful other tones too.
Good luck and remember to wear an old t-shirt

Try Natural Instincts which is a temporary product. They have a lot of pretty shades and you don't have to make a permanent committment. Good luck !

Oh I love dark brown hair! It's beautiful... and hun?? You're gonna ruin it. I'm telling you... get it professionally done... But if you have to? use Loreal Feria... Make sure you don't do it TOO much lighter than your natural color. PLEASE!! Just try getting it professionally done!!?? Good luck =]
