Putin has issued a statement saying that the US wants to dominate the world. Much as I don't like the man, isn't he just selling old news? Or is he wrong? I'd be interested in people's opinions on this one.

I don't think this is an issue of Putin vs. USA. This is just one more world leader chiming in on the current administrations ambitions in empire building. The world is sick and tired of empire builders and weapon build-ups. Many small nations around the world feel they must boost there defense because they aren't sure when to US will attack. The Bush administration is only serving three interests: the oil companies, the weapon companies, and international construction companies. The more risks that build up around oil, the higher the price of oil climbs. The more that countries build up there defense and enter new conflicts, the larger the market the weapon dealers have to serve. The more that is destroyed in these conflicts, the more our construction companies have to build.

It is a sick and dirty old model of doing American empire building. We need new leadership in America. The kind of leadership that will put an end to serving these three powerful special interests.

It is not Putin vs. the USA, it is Putin and other world leaders commenting on the control these three special interest groups have on the Bush administration.

I do not see the issues that President Putin focused on as old news. The reality is in the press. The leaders and a vast majority of the peoples in the world do not approve of the USA and the imperialistic course it is on. Forced democracy is not democracy, it is a subversion of peace and free will.
The man voiced an opinion, the opinion was published, that is the freedom that was the reason our fathers and their fathers gave up so much for in past wars against injustice and tyranny that existed and threatened the peace.
Well some were not really against bad, some of the battles were idealogical, we did not win them, nobody did.
Bush 1 had an obscene fascination with Saddam Hussein and took the issue of world stability to free the Kuwaiti Citizens, mission accomplished. Bush 2, 'the sequel', had the same hard on for Mr. Husein, he has claimed mission accomplished 2 times now, and we anxiously await the third mission accomplished that is nonsense. Bush 2, 'the sequel' killed that man, should have been game over, but now the dogs of lowest bidder builds the Bradley want to play, again.
I do not like the game of war, I do not know any sane person that does. The man is entitled to speak his mind, or was in a Free Press.
We sold our Freedom for oil, which is to say we sold our souls for black gold, Texas tea.Not a good thing. The man used a world stage to remind us of the Freedoms that were so hard to secure in what was the 'Evil Empire', so I think he did ok, for a commie.

USA started the wave of anger in Russia last week, when Robert Gaits in his speech put Russia together with dangerous countries like Nort Korea, Iraq, Iran and some other, saying that USA should expect anything from all those and need to be prepared in case of war with them.
It was all over the Russian news, but nothing on CNN. That statement pushed Putin to give his speech. But now on CNN they present it like Putin is the one who started this things. Under some weird titels involving nuclear words. I can't understand who is doing this two sided propaganda, but our governers are in to something for sure!

Well, I can only base my opinion on the two leader's approval ratings in their respective countries.

Putin - 78%
G W Bush - 32%

Who do you think is better liked by his people?.

The Americans fought against Imperialism during the American War of Independence. For many years they remained insular and did not attempt to mimic the previous Imperialistic/Empire nations of the past. This worked well and they became economically strong. Sadly, since the second world war, they have become Imperialist in the name of Democracy. As history has shown time and time again, they will fall in the same way as all other Imperialist Nations.

The United States is a young country and they act like it. They have yet to learn from history. They believe in their own propaganda. Certainly, this will be the root of their demise. All Empires collapse from within. This will happen.

Look at the growth of China and India. Economic power breeds military power and dominance. Can the USA combat that?

It's not about world domination, empire building or equalizing world power. Those are excuses to look the other way. To run from truth. Britain and her navy was placed in the same responsibility when it was a world power. The job occurs when there is a vacuum left by the rest of the world, shuffling its lazy feet to let the super power keep shipping lanes open for global trading, one example. And then complain or criticize out of their own puddle of self appointed helplessness and envy.

Putin has been arming the world for power, monetary gain, and to avenge losing the cold war. He had so much military buildup after they lost. You knew it was going to be sold somewhere. So, it goes for oil, and to topple the US. Putin is stirring the pot to confuse the idiots who love to parrot "I hate America" because it's trendy, but refuse to move out of the US.

And because we are setting up a defense system facing Russia in Poland and Czech Republic, aware of Putin's Cold War nostalgia. Putin wants Poland, CR, and many of the old USSR countries back in Russia's fold.

I am not going to say Putin is any better, but he has a point the USA is a pain in every ones butt, with their democracy, not every one wants it and not every one needs it, GO HOME YANKS and sort out your own problems and let the rest of the world look after theirs.

both....

The US does seem to 'bully' lesser countries into their way of thinking. It may be correct but others will see it as wanting to be in total control.

I have yet to see the US take on an equally equipped country as far as military might goes... nothing personal, just an observation...
