biscotti, coffee cookies, sometimes even scones. all meant for hot coffee dunking

You CAN, but here are a few words of wisdom... Hot liquid dissolves the sugar more rapidly, so be careful, because the cookie is held together with sugar of some sort, even if not cane sugar, and it will break almost immediately. The best hot coffee dunking cookies are as follows: Ginger Snap or Molasses Snap, if you aren't adverse to these flavors, usually incredibly sturdy, even soakable, and VERY good with coffee; Chocolate, not chocolate chip, we'll get to those, because they are like chocolate biscotti, which is not only a classic, but worth the acclaim and best with almonds; Snickerdoodle, which would be first on the list except for the fact that most snickerdoodles break very quick, but are awesome with coffee; Oatmeal or Oatmeal Raisin, because they are sturdier and go nicely with the coffee (this can make a very good breakfast all by itself -- give yourself credit for trying, there is sort of a fruit there and oats and an egg, yes?); Chocolate chip, only because of the popularity and availability, and they can take a short dunk; Butter cookies of any type are a nice coffee accompaniment, but not my favorite. That should be all you need to begin happy but careful cookie dunking... You will end up with some crumbs and/or chunks at the bottom of the cup no matter how careful.... Be well....

I just watched Mythbusters, and they've concluded that dunking cookies into hot coffee (or tea) can result in a catastrophic explosion. Ginger snaps are the least likely to explode, and Double-Stuf Oreos present the greatest danger.

Yes, I'm kidding.

Of course, as long as you dont mind having some cookie crumbs in your coffee, and the coffee mug is big enough to dunk the cookie in without breaking it =)
