It is a natural reaction passed down over the generations. Did you ever do Ring A Ring Of Roses in the playground ? Attishoo Attisho we all fall down is said to have come fron the great plague as sneezing was one of the first signs. Be kind to mum she is only carring on a tradition. Bless her !!!

Saying I bless you to someone is courteous when someone sneezes. Whether your mother says it or your mate, I'm surprised your mate even says it, most men don't acknowledge when a woman sneezes. It's a part of manners and your respect level, like excuse me, thank you, your welcome etc. It's a habit for people to say bless you when you sneeze, quite honestly it's kind of rude not to,it's like saying you don't deserve God's blessings. Think about it, hope this put it in some perspective for you.So the next time your mother says bless you, just say thank you, and leave it at that.

I never used to be bothered by people saying "bless you" (or not!) after sneezing. However, that all changed when my daughter was born. I've become a lot more superstitious since then - I'm constantly worrying about her. So maybe that's why your mum says it to you. Also, a lot of people say it as a matter of politeness, similar to "pardon me" after a belch etc.

Hiya, Why cant your mum say this to you, it is said that when you sneeze you are taking in the Heavens, and this is why you say bless you, your mum loves you you may not realise this yet but your mum is your best friend, she will always be there for you. Let her say it to you.

Whats wrong with your mum saying it? Just trying to be polite i guess. Maybe she is trying to get you into the habit of saying it yourself after you sneeze - out of manners!
'Bless me'

What's up with YOU? Why does it bother you when your mom says it, but it doesn't bother you when your friends do? That makes no sense. It's not like it's a saying made up by your generation. People have been saying for ages now. I say to to everybody who sneezes. Chill out and get a grip.

It just makes you cringe, not your mum's fault, not your fault it just does, Could be some throw back from when you were very young and is a bad memory locked away at the back of your mind. More likely however just one of these things that annoy us and we just don't know why.

I'm not sure why the majority of people answering have been so indignant and defensive. Haven't most people had something that their parents did or said that just got on their nerves? Sometimes, it's hard to know why even.
So, are you asking because it gets on your nerves for your mom to say it?
