The most dangerious thing is - taking pride in being an 'atheist' or a 'religious' person. Then people start forcing others to follow their thoughts and beleifs.
If you cannot find God in the first person who comes against you, forget about God - you won't meet him. Service is finding God in person next to you, Meditation is seeing God with in you, and Wisdom is seeing God everywhere.
The omnipresent conciousness (the cosmic energy that fills everything) is beyond any visual interpretation - so that it cannot be denied or proved - but it can only be experienced.

Look at the atheist Communist of the cold war. Many people in Russia were killed do to their beliefs and also in Communist China. There have been some very good articles about how atheism have given justification to the death of millions because life was just a random chance so life is not that important.
There has been much hatred from Communist atheist leader toward those who are peaceful submissive God fearing believers.

I think that it would depend greatly on the person.. I am a Christian and I am not dangerous or controlling.. I was more controlling before I found God.. I try to follow the Bible now so I find my self more peaceful. Faster to say I'm sorry and just a better person. (again based on the person)
There are Atheist that are mean and just plane hateful. There are also those that claim to be Christians that are mean and hateful.. So I would say both...

Since Atheist don't try to control anyone they can hardly be more controlling.
Many religions control their believers through fear of hell or some other notion.
Many religions also motivate people to do evil things in the name of their God. Definitely more dangerous than a person who doesn't even believe there is a god.

No one as ever told me how I must be a "good atheist girl." I was always being told how to be a "good Catholic girl." One horrible thing I was taught was "wasting food is a sin," and was forced(in a Catholic school cafeteria) to eat stewed tomatoes. I have an allergy to tomatoes, and became violently ill. I had informed the people forcing me that I could not eat them, but they would not listen.

Okay, what manner of atheism and which religion? It's like asking, " Who's more violent, people with guns or people with bombs?" You're going to have to narrow the question down a little.

I think it depends on the mindset of the person involved and WHICH religion you are speaking of. But if I had to choose, I would have to say religion.
