Pugs are absolutely adorable! They'll cuddle any time of day. They're playful, cute, quirky, perfect for small homes or apartments since they don't require a large running area, unique, and they think they are anything but dogs. They will definitely keep you entertained.

My parents have a 13 year old pug that they've had since a puppy. He's been a real joy for them, but that breed in really hyper, and not really very sedentary. They are super cute, but do require a lot of attention. The breed also had inherent health problems with their sinuses etc, because of the way their little faces are formed.

Pugs are great.

Pugs are great dogs - who wouldn't fall in love with those soulful eyes?

Yes, they can have health problems - what breed doesn't? Some of the health problems to watch out for are respiratory problems (due to their short muzzle), problems with the cornea of the eyes and skin problems.

Plus, pugs can tend to overeat so be sure you to don't overfeed him because being overweight is really unhealthy for any dog.

They do make loyal pets, they're affectionate and they are also pretty smart.

Nice personalities, but woah ... they have a LOT of hereditary problems. It's almost as if they were bred to have all the anatomical problems we could possibly breed into dogs. They can have dental problems, jaw problems, eye problems, ear problems, tongue/pharyngeal problems, back problems, leg problems, hip problems, skin problems, anal gland problems ... all hereditary because of the way the breed is supposed to look. Some pugs can't even breed without assistance because of their anatomy which prevents both mating and parturition. It'd be sad if it weren't kind of funny.

There are pugs out there who have virtually none of these problems; I'm talking about the breed in general.

They may be cute but they can have hereditary health problems.
Most pure bred dogs have an inherent health problem common to the breed.
My sister-in-law has a pug, only two years old, and hers has eye problems which is common in this breed. The dogs eye is diseased and needs to be removed. She is unhappy with this prognosis but will do what needs to be done for her pet.

Make sure if you get one that it comes from a notable beeder with a track record of healthy animals. Ask for references always.
