Please do not buy from a store. Most dogs from pets stores are products of puppy mills which are un-licensed breeders who's sole job is to breed dogs and sell them to pet stores. Most of these dogs are kept in cages their entire life and breed up until death. I have rescued numerous dogs from such conditions including helping Saint Bernard Rescue with seven Saints that suffered from eye infections, genital infections, social negligence, ear mites, malnutrition, worms, and dermatitis. They also had bite marks and deep wounds and were covered in feces and dirt. They were fed road kill and the reminence of dogs that had died. They had no potable water and no protection from the cold or heat and some even died in the winter and summer months. Buying from pet stores would only contribute to this irresponsible activity. If there is a petsmart nearby they work with animal adoption groups to promote animals up for adoption. You could start there or check out one of these sites for rescues in Brooklyn.
