What do you need to get your mail sent to a post-office box instead of your home? What kinds of documentation do you need? And who do you ask when you go in to the post-office?

Also, is there any reason why you can't receive some of your mail at your home, and some of your mail at the post-office box?

Thank you .... John Smith, Dover, Ohio

Forwarding mail is an all or nothing proposition. That being said if you give certain people your PO BOX number and others your home address you've accomplished the same thing with less hassle. To rent a PO BOX you need proper ID and $40 or more for the years rental. Any window clerk can set you up with a PO BOX but some offices keep it under the control of a particular clerk. Just ask for the clerk who handles box rentals. You really don't have to document anything to any of your correspondents just check off the "new address" box on the envelope and if they allow delivery to PO Boxes you're set. Some companies, such as utilities do not like to send mail to PO Boxes.

Ask anyone at your post office, just tell them you'd like to get a box and they will get you the paperwork and explain the fees to you.
I don't know why you couldn't get part of your mail at your house and part at the PO, just give the PO Box address to people you want to use it. That would be a great question for the person at the PO that you ask about the box in the first place.
To have mail sent there once it's set up, all you need to do is give out the address to the right people.

Just go to your local post office and tell them that you would like a P.O. Box. It will be 20 something dollars a year (at least that is how much where I live). They will give you a postal box number and a key. Then you can use this address for whatever you want. They will give you the address as far as zip code, etc. Ask anybody behind the desk for assistance and they will give you paperwork and everything needed.

wow i cant believe im answeing this ....ok some towns are too small to have mail carriers so they sort it at the post office and place your mail in your p.o. box (post office box) another reason is because, maby you dont want certain people knowing where you live... to get one you go to the post office and sighn up for one if you live in a big town with a mail carrier you may ned to pay a small fee for it

SURE! Many of my colleagues authorize the post office to route certain pieces of postal deliveries to either a P.O. box or directly to thier office locale.
All that you need is the proper authority form that should be available at your local post office and you need to inform those mailers of the address change.
