I think you just need a break. He is confused, and obviously loves you. Give it a little time, then maybe you can give him a second chance if you want to.

The silent treatment is cruel, but use whatever method you have of writing him (phone, email, hand written note, whatever) and in the note you have to tell him very specifically that there is absolutely no chance that you 2 are getting back together and that he needs to stop trying because he's starting to look silly to people. Use this comment to play on his ego which all guys have a problem with. This should do the trick nicely, but once he gets the note you have to cut him off from all conversation with you. If your friend comes back with messages from him then just tell them that he's already gotten his last message from you and that you have nothing else left to say. If you don't go hard line like this then your problem is just going to get worse and he could possibly start showing up around when you're out with someone else or trying to get something started with someone else. Be strong and sincere with him. It's the only thing he'll understand.

first of all you cant give him any reason at all that there is a chance of you guys getting back together. no maybe's , no "well see what happens" none of that. tell your friend to quit talking to him to. not in a mean way. just dont talk to him. and you do the same.

you cant make him understand.... handle your business and let him handle his. move on with your life, as long as he gets any reaction from you, he will keep trying. block his number, tell your friend to do the same... (or at least, she should be hanging up on him.... she is not helping, and is feeding his obsession by acting as a go-between.)
eventually, he will move on on his own. all you can do is not give him something to cling to.

careful, he sounds like he could become a stalker, abuser. block his number from coming through. don't answer his questions. he is trying to keep dialog open. dont give him the opportunity. CUT HIM OFF. haven't you ever heard that even negative attention is better thn none. sooooo- give him NONE you may have to change your number. Or ask yourself. do you like the attention

Why is he calling your friend instead of you? thats sort of odd. Tell him he obviously doesnt get it and just to move on now while there's still time.
