We have never heard this expression outside our family, but for us it has a definite meaning. Our baby daughter when she was learning to talk pointed to snowdrops and said "Mini wop wops".
That is what we have called them ever since.

However, could this be a misprint of the words Map/Maps since you mention Geography?

(North America) A racial term for anyone of Italian descent. Contrary to what some may think or have read, "Wop" isn't an acronym for "With Out Papers", but was derived from an Italian word "guappo", which means thug.
