Click Start, then Run. Type in msconfig and click OK. This brings up the system utility tab. Click on Start Up (top right) and check, or uncheck, all that you wish to start when your computer does.
Dead easy.

The easy way is to use Winpatrol. It uses icons and plain english so you know exactly what you're changing. The programs are still available from the Start menu.
