In the U.S. conflict in S.E. Asia (67-72 era), the Huey gun ships used M-60 machine guns for the "Door Gunners", why did they NOT fit them all with .50 caliber, or "Mini-Guns" as standard equipment on a gun ship ?, would'nt they have had more "Punch" ? is it because the M-60 was lighter, could carry more ammo. to spray at a high rate of speed ?

Most of it is a financial decision. The 7.62mm M-60 was much cheaper to make that the 50 caliber, not to mention the mini-gun.
The ammunition was also cheaper, easier to load and transport.

The 7.62 does pack enough firepower to make it quite effective.

The availability of ammunition was also a key factor. The hand held, bi pod mounted version was used extensively, and subsequently a lot of spare ammunition was available. Also, if both heavy machine guns use the same ammo, only one kind has to be produced and shipped around the world.

You can ship them UPS, FedEX, I do not know if USPS ships guns. You first cannot ship them directly to your house. You need to have them shipped to a gun store or other FFL holder but before you even do you need their permission to do so from them. The when they get shipped you may have to pay up to a $30 transfer fee per gun. UPS and FedEX will ship firearms, I know this personally. I have had two firearms shipped this way. One was shipped to my house after I shipped it UPS for repairs but it was already in my name and the place was local so no FFL. And another when I bought a gun online and had it shipped to my local gun store via FedEX.

........ remember it was a new innovation for that time ...... they took the best available in that period and it is not to be judgmental or if we think they missed a point somewhere ............ Huey was only a transporter and to use it as a gunship was a big leap ..... depends on ammunition available and effectiveness from a moving platform etc. ...........

Dependability, weight, fire rate, were all factors in the decision to use the M-60 in helicopters.
