A puppy who is just a year old is still considered a puppy. They may even have some teeth that are still baby teeth. A good way for the chewing to stop is to buy him toys that are hard to destroy. You introduce the toy to the dog and play with it with him. Everytime the dog starts to chew that toy, you priase the dog with a positive voice. Everytime he chews on the furniture you use a negative voice. Repition is huge and so is routine. If you are not constantly doing this then the dog will constantly test you. Also there is a spray you can buy at the vet that has such a bitter taste to it, dogs won't go near it. Spray that in areas where the dog chews, once they bite that its so strong that after awhile they will not go there anymore. Spray the area every four days.
As for the marking, its a natural thing and if you fixed your after he started spraying then chances are he will continue to spray but the order will not be there strong. He is still young so the spraying thing should go away. Invest in some strong order cleaners and that can take away the scent.
Good luck.

sounds like you have some serious issues besides the chewing.
The over protection can be a danger sign for future biting!! You may be like a mother to him but trust me, your "baby" needs strict discipline. Either start watching the dog whisperer or GET PROFESSION TRAINING!!! The other option is to crate the dog. I never believed in them until last year when we brought a terror into our lives. More info on the over protective would be helpful.. Does he guard food? does he growl or snap when anyone comes near you? if so, you are letting the dog control you instead of being obedient. Would you let a 2 year old child tell you no and then let them do as they please? no means NO...no matter what the species

well my dog did that too but all you do is to buy something call bitter orange(tabasco sause works too) and spray it on what they chew on. Then the dog will find it and get a bad taste. Do this as many times as needed. It worked for me!

make sure you give him nylabones..the durable ones... and if you go to the pet store.. you can get this spray called bitter apple.. and it stops them from chewing.. its clear and doesnt have a smell.. but the dogs can sense it... and when they taste it.. they stay away.. it works.. i have 4 dogs.. a mini dashound, and 2 scottish terriers.. and a st bernard.. my st bernard is outside of course.. but its worked on my other dogs! hope this helps!!
