They all have an equal share in the old city. Each one would like to claim it's stake, but it needs to be the one place on earth where all 3 groups can share equally. G-d deeded the land to Abraham and his descendants forever, so I suspect the Jews have the greatest right to the land of Israel and Jerusalem.

The Jews had the city first, since before the year (5767 years ago) when Moses received the 10 commandments from G-d on Mount Sinai (in Egypt)...and the city was shared amongst everyone.

Then came the Romans who claimed Jerusalem before the year (2007 years ago) of Christ's death. ...and after Christ's death, the Christians chose to keep Jerusalem for themselves.

Then came Muhammed around 1,000 AD who brought about Jerusalem's claim from Islam.

In the many years that followed, it was claimed and relclaimed many times by various forces...and changes were made to the construction of the city itself with each capture/re-capture.

Finally, in the early 20th century, it belonged to "Anglo-Palestine" as a British colony. In 1948, it was granted to Israel (the Jews) as part of a UN Mandate to become the capital city of Israel. Israel chose to share the city between Christians, Moslems and Jews, but that didn't last long. Moslems declared the Israeli deed to the land from the UN was "illegal" and started a war against Israel that lasts to this day.

In 1967, during the 6-day war, Israel re-captured all of Jerusalem, the West Bank (formerly Jordan), the Golan Heights (formerly Syria), Gaza and the entire Sinai peninsula (Egypt). The Sinai was given back to Egypt within the following year and parts of the West Bank were given back over the next decade as well. Gaza was returned in 2005.

It belongs to the side that has the tanks. Right now, that would be Jews. As a moral note...Jews allow other groups access to the holy lands of Jerusalem. Muslims did not allow Jews access to the wailing wall before the annexation of Jerusalem. Who deserves control over the region? People who allow everyone access, or those that hold it for themselves?

Jesus was a Jew, who began the religion Christianity.

Those who are Christians believe, therefore, that Jerusalem belongs to the Jews, but upon Christ's return, will belong to all of Christ's followers.

Jews, however, believe it belongs to the Jews and that their Messiah is yet to come.

Muslims... currently believe it belongs to them and always will.

So the answer depends on your belief.

the land belongs to God and all of them are just visitors, anyway the Muslims and Christians are there for their whole life and the christians have asked the Muslims to expel the Jews from Jerusalem when the Muslims recaptured it in the past.
it is a holy place for all of them but the Jews are destroying it so they don't deserve to live there

Christians and Jewish people primarily. Mecca and Medina are the holiest of Muslim places, but Jerusalem is on the list also. But so is Australia, which was founded by Afghan Muslims, so is India and Kasmir which was ruled by Muslims. Muslims probably lay a claim to Demark and Sweden and I expect one day to see them prove American Indians were Muslims when they came over the Bering straits.

All three religions have holy sites either in or near Jerusalem, so in a spiritual sense, it belongs to all. Politically, it belongs to whatever secular power happens to be in control of the real estate. At present, that's the modern state of Israel.

Wasn't Jerusalem a Jewish community from the very beginning.? Correct me if I am wrong. Therefore, that would make it a Jewish city.

Unfortunately, this city is very important to 3 different and powerful world religions. I hope that there can be a peaceful resolution of this very explosive and delicate subject.

I won't share my opinion, but I will share God's.

He gave the land to Abraham and his decendents - forever. It belongs to the Jews.

Anyone with a modest understanding of history and recent events dating back to 1948 will clearly see God's hand in the affairs of Israel and Jerusalem.
