Surely whatever he took the rib for he (as an omnipotent being) could have done without the rib. Even ihe was trying to symbolize something, he could have simply written if into the bible without actually having done it.

Is there anything that God could have possibly needed that rib for?

So far nobody has said why he actually needed to take Adam's rib out, just why he did it (some sort of lesson to Adam and Eve). But since he was omnipotent, couldn't he have just planted the teaching of the lesson directly into their brains without the surgery?

The Bible has been altered by man so many times, who knows if Eve was actually made out of a rib. That was just one way the men of the rising governments kept women in control. Saying that woman was made of man put men on a higher pedestal. It allowed them to keep women in check. By using the rise of Christianity they were able to keep women uneducated, and out of what they though was men's responsibility. Who knows, maybe if they would have allowed women in the government Rome never would have fallen.

It was so the Eve would know that without Adam (a man) that she would be incomplete and to show Adam, that without his rib he is incomplete and to be complete, he must be with Eve (who has his rib). Example...Women need a mans sperm to have a child, and men can't have child without women. It's just kind of a metaphor for saying that both men and women need eachother.

As a way of explaining why God is a man despite every human being on Earth being born of a woman.
All men on Earth come out of a woman but the FIRST woman came from a man, yeah right.

When Adam looked at Eve he was looking at something that carried a part of himself. How could he abuse or neglect himself? It was God's way of showing us how a wise man loves his wife. We are one and the same. A part of all mankind.

according to the full version of the story he tried making a woman out of clay twice and screwed it up both times--the first one fought with Adam and left him because they were too equal and the second, Adam witnessed the creation and couldn't bear to look at her
