If someone claims they believe that jello can fly, we would not respect that belief (because there is no evidence to support it). Why respect the belief in god, which also has no evidence to support it?

Hell no. Respecting their beliefs means, in a certain sense that we accept their beliefs. If we accept their beliefs, we also have to accept all the horror that comes along with these beliefs (holy wars, persecution of homosexuals, etc.).

But do you go out of your way to tell that person that jello can not fly? Or do you just leave him to his belief? I don't respect when people use their beliefs to try to take advantage over other people. I can't respect the hypocracy that people seem to live because of their beliefs. But when their beliefs don't do these things and they have a happy life... then why care about the belief itself?

Um, jello has flown before if someone has thrown it, I would call that proof. Seriously though, of course there's proof that God exists, God performs miracles every day, you just refuse to see them. It is a miracle if you can walk and breath and talk, becuase a lot of people can't. You could be killed at any moment, and yet your still alive. It's a miracle. Life is a miracle, and I'm tired of being told that it's just a waste of time before you die. People who believe that we live to die have no value in life, and I know God is real because he gives life its value! I can feel him, he created us. You don't have to believe it, but that's your choice. I doubt you will read it, but Romans 1:20 is a good verse for what you are talking about. And speaking of the Bible, it is more complex than you think. It was written by many different men (inspired by God) over 700 years, and yet men were able to give more than 300 prophecies about Jesus' life several centuries earlier and they all came true (they weren't vague prophecies like Nostradamas either, they were quite clear). Now, you can say that the diciples stole Jesus' body from the tomb after he died, but I don't see how, it took many men to move the stone, and there were gaurds keeping watch in front of the stone at all hours, and just the same, why can't Jesus' remains be found, if they stole him they had to put him somewhere. Jesus was resurected and there were over 500 eye witnesses that have been put on record at the time which saw that he was alive after his death. How could all 500 people get that wrong. Jesus' resurection was a prophecy and so were many other situations through out his life, but you probably won't listen to me no matter what I say, so thanks for reading if you read at all. I'm sorry you refuse to believe in something that's just as real as the wind, even though you can't see it. Good luck with life and I hope you find what you're looking for.

I surely have complete note of for the rights of theists, non theists, atheists, polytheists and agnostics to have their beliefs. I surely haven't any repect in besides in any conception which inspires a one way/purely way body of innovations or a condemnatory, or perhaps more desirable, body of innovations in the route of different faiths. although, even as confronted with self righteous conception platforms i'm by some potential forced to play devil's propose.

you should respect everyone regardless of their beliefs. you should have a mutual understanding-we think differently and we're not going to force our opinions on eachother. the world would be much better if people would let eachother believe what they want and stop forcing their opinions on others. i don't run around saying "if you dont believe in god then you're going to hell" because it doesn't matter-if someone doesn't believe something they won't be forced to change their mind by threatening things they don't believe will happen anyway.

One only gets what they are willing to give. You can still hold your own particular beliefs about the religion but, there is no reason not to respect the practitioner if you would like respect in return.

Well, I'd say that given your response ("Why respect the belief in god, which also has no evidence to support it?"), you've already shown that you have no respect for others' beliefs. So this question is nothing but rhetoric, and you're too biased to even consider someone else's opinion.

So much for you atheists' so-called "tolerance" and open-mindedness. And you have the nerve to call Christians "stupid and bigoted?"

What a joke! Clean up your own act before you accuse someone else of what you're guilty of doing.

I only respect the ones that respect my beliefs in return. I am an agnostic and I don't like being bullied into other religions and having people come to my door, telling me that I'm going to hell. Those are the ones I don't respect.

the jello theory is obselete and a bad example. jello cannot fly, and i can prove that to you in a second.

God, on the other hand, is a touchy subject. A tolerant person would respect the opinion of others. An intolerate person would judge them just by that opinion and dismiss them as 'stupid'
