Up to 46" lcd are far better. Above this some people say plasma have a very slight edge. If you intend gaming on it avoid plasma. The best on the market at present is the Sony Bravia range.

Rule of thumb is -
LCD's are best viewed from the front, due to small angle of view. (colour changes show when viewing at an angle) therefore are more suitable for small rooms or at one end of a long room.LCD's are better at sizes below 42inch, due to the high cost of screens above this size and the very sharp picture looking "grainy"
Plasma has a very good side viewing angle, but the image is not as sharp as LCD overall (LCD pictures can look "Hard" to the eyes). Plasma screens are better at sizes 42 inch and above. Good for large rooms and odd shape seating arrangements.
Rear and front projection is only a solution to be considered above 50 inch for rear projection and 60inch for front projection.
The picture quality at the moment is not even close to that of comparable priced LCD or Plasma. To get near the quality, you will need to multiply your LCD/Plasma budget by a factor of between five and ten!
I chose to go Plasma and bought an LG 42 inch HiDef unit, which I am very happy with. I would suggest that anyone looking should take a favourite DVD around a few shops and view all formats within your budge. You will find that the picture quality varies wildly from make to make. Remember that the quality of the player and the cable connections will make a big difference.
I chose professional quality QED gold plated HDMI and SCART cables for my inputs and the signal improvent was amasing over standard quality cables. (They did cost £98 and £120 respectively ).

I prefer size and longevity so the Plasma is definately out. The rear (not the front) projection tv is the way to go.(I'm cheap) You can get a huge screen with a great picture for a fracion of the cost of the others. LCD's are nice too but can get expensive.

If any of those three to chose out of then I would say LCD because Plasma will go after a few years and it would cost you more to repair it than to buy a new one. Rear projector is bulky and also can give a fuzzy picture but is still watchable and rear projection would be the same unless you got some hi def one.

Are you looking for a biggie? If so then I would reccomend a Plasma because most sets out now will give you the same image quality as their more expensive lcd equivalents.
Dont touch projectors as their noisy and poor pooor screen quality and you have to replace the bulb every few hundred hours of watching and their not cheap.
