Most of the men I've dated would rather have an intelligent woman. I guess you're just thinking about the scumbags that hang around bars and stuff, trying to pick up chicks.
If you think about it, women are just as shallow. They want the well-endowed Ken doll with six pack abs.
Men just want, skinny, big chested, girls with a tight "you know what".

I think some men view intelligent women as a threat or otherwise as just too much of a challenge for them. I think though, as the role of women as being self-sufficient really starts to take root, that more and more men will start to view intelligent women in a more favorable light.
Women (in many parts of the world, anyway) have really come into their own as far as being self-sufficient. I'm a woman, but, if I were a man, I would find that quality in a woman alone very attractive.

The human male subconscious has been shaped by millions of years of natural selection to look for one thing in a woman: youth. The lives of cave people were short and brutal. An 18 year old cavegirl was more likely to raise her child to adulthood than a 35 year old (who would probably be nearing the end of her life). Fortunately, we have a conscious mind in addition to our subconscious (although many people unfortunately listen only to the whispers of the subconscious). Intelligent people with strong memes are better able to combat the caveman within, and choose a mate with more to offer than just youth.

I must admit I do find women that are not too intelligent more attractive. I think they have a sort of vulnerability that I'm drawn to.

Because men tend to be insecure about themselves so they want someone that is at a lower level than themselve to feel good about themselves.
