What oil? How do we benefit from Iraq's oil. I certainly don't use it. You fool yourself when you think it isn't a holy war.

Bush just likes to drop bombs on people. I've answered this question so many times. Iraq was just something Bush thought he could take over because he thought they were weak. Guess he was wrong. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and Bush wouldn't dare try to fight Saudi Arabia because if they took their money out of the US, we'd be in bad shape. Iraq also doesn't have oil, so that can't be the answer also. Now Bush wants to fight Iran also because he thinks they are helping the Sunni insurgents in Iraq. Iran is a Shi'a country. They are against the Sunnis. If Bush wants to end the war, he should enlist Iran's help because I'm sure that Iran would love to get back at Iraq for the war they caused years ago. Bush had the chance to even trade to get some of the other terrorists from 9/11 that were caught trying to cross through Iran and he wouldn't even take them. He has a vendetta against the entire middle east and if he starts a war with Iran, people think they know what Jihad is now, they have NO idea.

It's actually about several things. The oil isn't even the primary cause in my opinion. At least not directly. I think the big issue was that the Wahabists (sp?) use as part of their dogma that they want us out of the gulf states. The radical Mullahs in Saudi Arabia have complained for years about the US precense in Saudi Arabia.
Bush has close family ties to the Saudi government, and he wanted to relocate the troops. Israel isn't large enough, and it's too far from Iran. We've owed turley money from the first gulf war....they aren't thrilled with how we didn;t pay for base usage. Iraq was an attractive option. It borders Iran and Syria...it's in the middle of everything. It had a weak military. They had a history of conflict with the US, so it was easier to drum up support. Iraq does, well did, have an industrial base. It looked like a good spot to relocate American troops.
One of the real tragedies to this action, and one that people haven;t really caught onto, is that when we leave Iraq, and we WILL have to leave Iraq, we have very limited options to go and set up a military precense. The Saudis are NOT going to want us back. Loss of a military precense means weaker diplomacy in the region. It means we project less force in an area that is geographically and economically vital.
The middle east is NOT just important becasue of oil. It is the gateway to three continents. It has a major geographic significance.

Why are you assuming that American citizens don't realize that?
We know that the war in Iraq has nothing to do with religion and no one has said it is. It's Muslims who turn everything into a religious reason.
The war is about oil and military strategy, sooner or later the US of A will pull out of Saudi Arabia, hopefully soon, and base itself in Iraq, the oil is a collateral upside.
When will non-Americans understand that Americans DO understand what's going on, that's why many are protesting.

Saying we went to war for oil is like saying we invaded Germany for their vast supplies of bratwurst or Vietnam for their large reserves of rice. Believe it or not, sometimes wars are fought to stop injustice. This war is fought because of Saddam’s choice to flout the decrees of the UN and was a general threat to ,not just the USA, but any freedom loving country. Saddam was evil and evil tends to breed more evil, until the problem is too big to ignore. If it was about oil, why not go into UAE, they have the most oil. Saddam needed to be stopped and the UN had been telling Saddam for almost 20 years to stop his reign of terror, but took no action against him. So final someone steps up and all of a sudden we’re the wrongdoers.

First, please don't generalize-it's ridiculous to think that an entire population has the same thoughts and beliefs.
I think most of us- US citizens- know that his goals aren't really what he says they are. In my opinion I think he was looking for a reason to get over there since his dad was president and 9/11 was his ticket. Do you ever stop and think "What happened with osama bin laden?" That was supposedly why the military was sent overseas despite the fact that his family and bush's family have had a friendship for years. It was to have an excuse to get to Iraq-again only in my personal opinion. And now sadam hussein's dead, our military has been training their military for quite a while now and what does bush do? Calls to send more than 20,000 troops over?! Obviously bush has a reason he wants to stay over there.
To anyone who responds to my answer-please remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, your's may be the same or different, but either way please just be respectful.

I am an American Muslim citizen and I knew it was about oil and killing Muslims when I reverted. Also Bush is not an economic genius. He lost the US more jobs than president Hoover did during the great depression.

An an airbase, like Guantanamo in Cuba.
If we had a base in the Middle East other than Turkey and if required Israel, then we'd bend less to politics of a country like Israel.
The US wants a staging area.

Maybe. Don't kid yourself though. The wars are all linked to religion, power, and greed.
Oil = power
Oil = billion dollar industry
Billion Dollar Industry = greed
Greed = war
Oil dependency = war

Bush is an excellent stage magician/illusionist keeping everybody focused on the war so that nobody is paying attention to what he's doing here

And you know all this how???? You must be a prophet then...
It's easy to sit back and decide that things aren't true or are true...anyone can do that. Do the research and find out for yourself. And if you don't like Bush's economy...post your plan...we'd all be interested!!
