When you leave the house or go to bed put the puppy in a crate. While you are home take him out at least every hour for the first week or so until he gets the hang of it and then space it out in between trips. It helps if another dog has gone in the area around but do not let the puppy near an area were a stray has urinated. This could spread disease such as Leptospirosis and I can tell you from personal experience that is far from a joke. I have seen two dogs die within two weeks of each other and one that took nine weeks of rehabilitation. It's easily treated but there are not very many signs of Lepto and it only takes a few weeks to become fatal to dogs and can take months to a year in humans. But if there is a neighbors dog who goes in a certain spot then it would help to take the puppy around that area of the fence or bush.

Get a crate and use that to train the puppy. I've used crate training with all the dogs I have had and it is the easiest way. Most dogs won't go potty where they sleep so if you get the puppy used to going in the crate during the day when you are gone then letting the puppy out as soon as you get home.

You are not taking him outside enough. Puppies have really small bladders - take him out once or twice an hour to go to the bathroom. OK, at night keep him either in a laundry room on newspapers or crate train him so that he doesn't have free run of the house and get him outside first thing in the morning. You will have overnight accidents for a long time until his bladder grows.

You can't potty train a puppy..their legs are too short to reach the potty! You can housebreak a puppy by putting it's soiled newspaper closer to the door every day until finally you put the soiled paper out side.

Each time you feed your puppy, put it outside and watch. as soon as it does its business, Give it a lot of praise. then put it out about every hour. And every time pees or poops, give it praise again. When in the house you will usually see it sniffing around on the floor just before it pees. It's looking for that perfect spot to pee. That's a good time to say no in a very firm voice and rush it outside. If your puppy does do it in your house. Please do not hit it as will probably feel like doing. Remember it's just a baby. And not as smart as a child. Instead scold it and put it outside.

I installed a bell to hang off my door handle. At first I would take my dog out every 3 - 4 hours and ring the bell really loud and yell "wanna go outside?". After time he associated the bell with going potty and now he rings it whenever he needs to go out.

all you hav to do is take the puppy outside after meals, playtimes, and sleeps/naps. puppies always hav to go after these activities, so he will get the hang of going outside soon and will learn to tell you when he has to "potty." also, the puppy's breed doesn't matter on how to train it.
