I took the mother to the vet and dropped her off. When I brought her back to the house, her daughter hissed at her and did not want to even see her. She has been hiding in the bedroom, barely eaten or drunk water. Everytime her mother goes by, she hisses and her hairs stand up. I have heard this is normal due to the new scent the mother has. Will this ever go away? Is there anything I can do to make it the little one accept her mother again? I'm afraid they will get into a fight.

I've got 2 cats, Jack and Anna Maria. Jack had to go to the hospital for a UTI a few months ago and Anna Maria was unfriendly to him for about 2 days after he got back. They're best buddies again, now. There's a product called Feliway that might help calm them down while the mother cat smells like hospital. I would give each cats it's own space for a while, so they don't fight - each cat should have access to it's own food and water bowls and separate litter boxes.

We have four cats and the very same things happens to use when we take one of the cats to the Vet.

Mommy cat smells different now, she picked up all the scents from the Vets office and that's why the baby is hissing at her.

This is a trick my Vet told my to use, and it works.
Put a drop of vanilla between each cats shoulder blades and at the base of each cats tail.
That way they smell alike again and all the hissing and spitting stops.

Good luck, and even if you don't try the vanilla trick the hissing and spitting will stop within a day or two.

I think Feliway is a very expensive way to go in this situation. You can simply put some kitchen vanilla on each cat's nose and under the tail so that the two cats will smell the same to one another. You can also use a scented hand cream. Just a very small amount will help mask any other scents that are strange to the cats.

Sometimes, when you cat goes to the vet, she picks up a lot of strange smells. That is the reason her daughter has freaked out - mom smells different from what daughter cat thinks of as her scent. Cats are very smell-oriented.

Keep them separated for a while; mama cat's normal smell should return and the strange smells go away.

Try putting the mom in the younger cat's litter box and smear her with urine...that way she will get the scent of her daughter. This method is usually used for pups when they are rejected by their parents(or with milk if the female is still nursing). Or try wrapping the younger at in a towel and then use it on her mother as well. If this doesn't work(usually the urine stuff should) it means it's an entirely different problem(behaviour one). Good luck

You did not mention the age of the kitten, but since she is eating and drinking I assume she is weaned. She may be reacting to scent left on her from the vet office. Once that scent is gone the kitten will most likely be ok.

I'd leave them alone and let them work it out...I bet they will be ok soon.

in spite of in the adventure that they not in any respect get alongside, they are going to likely hit upon a thanks to dismiss one yet another. in case you introduce them to the homestead collectively, it will be impartial territory, yet opportunities are extreme there'll be one cat this is more effective dominant. I had 2 cats, and then picked up a stray, and upon getting him vetted and healthful, I presented him to the others, and they did not truly like one yet another yet they discovered to deal. it really is a threat that in case you leave them on my own mutually, they are going to wrestle and one can try (or prevail in) killing the different. frequently it really is maximum perfect to introduce animals with a door keeping apart them for a lengthy time period, a minimum of a few hours. even as they look to recuperate from it, you are able to allow them interior of an identical room. this is truly basically playing it by potential of ear, in the adventure that they wrestle, keep them separated. Hissing is frequent in spite of the undeniable fact that. they're going to revert again to their organic tendencies and examine out to look not basic for the different, yet opportunities are extreme it is going to blow over.

I'm sure things will be fine. Just give it some time, once Mom starts "smelling" like her old self, baby should come around.

They should adjust to each other again. You should know it is the mom that does not accept the baby any more but it is natural.
