Miss Ginger, why do you hate mutts? You get so uppity and defensive about them that it seems like you're trying to make yourself feel better about buying your purebred dogs.

To the original questioner, the shelter would be a great place to start looking. Even if you don't find a dog exactly like your other dog, the choices are endless and you will likely find a dog you love. Also, if you adopt an adult dog it means you already know what its temperament will be like, and if it has any behavior problems. You know what you're getting!

Sorry about the loss of your dog, it's never easy. Best of luck in finding your next companion.

I also had a Great Pyr. / Golden Retriever mix (at least that's what we all thought that she was... definitely Great Pyr). Anyhow, we lost her this past summer to cancer (she was 15). I adopted her from the local SPCA when she was just under a year, and she was a truly magnificent dog: smart and very friendly. A bit stubborn, but generally well behaved and easily trainable. An amazing (and amazingly beautiful!) dog; she was so striking, people used to stop us on the street to inquire what sort of dog she was. After she died, we adopted a Shepherd/Golden mix (another great dog), but I still really miss her.

Go to petfinder.com and do a search for Great Pyrenees; you'll probably pull up a number of dogs who are in Great Pyr. rescue groups. You could contact these groups and ask them to let you know if and when they get any Great Pyr./Golden mixes. Good luck to you!!

He was a mutt. You can never tell with mutts if you will get another who is like your first. You can however go with a Great Pyr purebred or a Golden purebred. That way you do know what you are getting, and it is not a shot in the dark.
There is just no way to predict how a mutt will turn out, no matter how great another one may be.

Check with Golden Retriever and/or Great Pyrenees rescue groups - one of them may have a mix that you could adopt.
