I'm in 8th grade, and I love to run. But only when I WANT to run, not when other people tell me to. I run extremely fast, but it burns out quickly. I don't know if I should or not. Plus I have a bad stomach, and every time I join a sport, I end up getting sick. I hate it and I don't know what to do.

It's great that you love to run and you should keep it up but an organized sport might not be for you if you don't like to do it when others want you to. I know track can be a very demanding sport and you would have daily practices and have to run for several miles at each practice. Though you may be better suited for short runs, I know the coaches will still have you run with the other team members and once again if you get sick every time you join a sport you may not want to join. If I were you I think I would stick own my own and just run for my own enjoyment...therefore you don't have to do what others want and you won't get sick...good luck with your decision!

It sounds like your stomach hurts because you get yourself so stressed out and nervous that you're working yourself up to an ulcer.
Running is a great sport to get into and is also a good destresser. It sounds as though deep down you want to join, but you're just worried. Otherwise why would you put this question out there?
I was on the track team when I was younger. The nice thing about track is that you don't have to be real social. Running competitively is A LOT of fun - espcecially when you win.
Just go for it. You have nothing to lose. If you start to have health problems, tell your folks and ask them to set up an appointment. You may even want to talk with your guidance counselor. They've often dealt with similar problems for other kids and may have a few tricks up their sleaves to make things easier for you.
Good luck - and have fun!

Try it for a season and see how you like it,but the thing to do is once you start the season you need to finish. I would venture to guess that once you start doing races you will get caught up in the thrill of running with a crowd watching. If you burn out quickly it means you are probably starting out to fast and need to even out your pace some and how much depends on what distances you are running. as far as the stomach goes ask your Dr. what you can do about that. you will never know if you like something until you try it. Go for it, being a member or a team is great.

I think you are really good at short distance track events. (You said: but it burns out quickly) Like 200m or somthing like that.
Yes, you should join the track because you never know what could happen... you can try.... you may be the best runner... chek it out, have some fun.
Please join the track, becuse this is how I started runing. I ran untill grade 9 and won some games as well.. If you don't join the track, you never know who you are!!!

you can ask the coach if you can practice with them one day. if the coach asks you why, tell him/her that you end up getting sick and you want to see if this would happen if you had joined track. Good luck.

You should join, but if you don't think you have the energy to run very long, don't run distance.
