Rub or spray the patio with citrus juice or anything citrus-scented. Cats hate the smell. Also, many pet stores carry cat repellent. I am sure they have something that bothers only cats but won't freak out your pooch.

If you don't mind spending some bucks, attach an automatic sprinkler to a motion detector. A few squirts should discourage the cats. Only drawback is you and your dog may get sprayed too.

Try spraying your patio with ammonia & water 1/2 & 1/2. Seems to work for me. My cat has a kitty door that other cat won't come thru now with the ammonia smell.

They sell cat repellant sprays in hardware stores. Spray it around the perimeter of the patio and the scent, which is unpleasant to cats, will keep them away. Good luck.

About the only thing I have used to keep cats away from a certain area in the yard is to use a sprinkler that is activated by a motion sensor. (I've used them to keep deer out of my garden). But, your dog will activate them too! These sprinkers work wonders...

Pet stores sell repellants, and there are several all-natural citrus remedes out there. If you're looking for a cheap and easy solution, though, a sprinkling of moth balls around the peritmeter of the porch will do wonders. It even keeps pets out of your garden without polluting the area.

I don't know how you can work it with your dog, but I do know for a fact cats do not like moth balls.
