Isn't it frightening that it is they who equate stealing a penny with raping and murdering a child and
isn't it even more frightening that they claim to know the mind of God and put the blame on him: "hey it's not my rules, it's God's".
Who else finds this mentality highly disturbing, and how could one help but question the sanity of people who think all "sin" is the same.

Chef Bob: I surely don't believe in YOUR God, because though I was raised Christian, this is still not the dogma I was taught,
IT is only your twisted sect of Christianity (fundamentalism/evangelism) which believes such a vile thing and insults God.
So the really scary thing is that it is YOU, not God, who thinks this drivel, and for that you should be ashamed.

Scifiguy: I know. I relate completely to what you are saying.
I have Fundamentalist in-laws who beat their small children with whips until they literally BLED from their legs, they were beat mercilessly for dumb reasons of course and the entire church knew about it. They later come out and state the children deserved it because of their sin (lying? who knows) But don't see their child abuse as sin at all, oddly enough.
The entire church and Christian school obviously didn't see their sin (if it were one) as any different than someone low on money skipping the church contribution.

I find that kind of mentality a bit psychotic. They think that all sins are equal. Because of this, they believe that any 5-year-old child who takes a piece of candy from a supermarket should get life in prison or the death penalty since they believe that stealing a piece of candy is equal to mass genocide.

another example of unbelievers eager to believe the worst simply on uninformed hearsay.
in the sense that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and thus require redemption through the Son yes, a sin is a sin. If you break one law you break the whole law as Paul taught. This is pertaining to the principle of redemption, not civic statutes governing sentencing. So get the facts before you condemn.
I read several posters saying things like "ohh how awful those Christians are" as though they actually could believe Christians would sentence a five year old child for stealing a piece of candy the same as a murderer.
I say how revealing unbelievers are of their willingness to condemn Christians no matter how flimsy and unbelievable the evidence. I guess the unbelievable and the unbeliever belong in the same sentence more often than not.

The reason people say "any sin is a sin" is so people will not try to justify their sin based on the fact that it's not as bad. Even God knows that some sins are worse. The problem is that sinners think that if something isn't illeagal, then it is not a sin and they can do it. If murder and rape wasn't illegal many Christians would be killed and raped. The truth is that you wouldn't even have laws if their weren't Christians to make them.

Jeesh guys, stop equating sin with judgement. All sin is the same, all judgement is not.
No Christian thinks a 5 year old who steals a piece of candy should get life in prison, nor do we think a rapist should be set upon the street in 2 years. Man's justice is punishment for crime based upon the severity of the crime. God's judgement is solely based upon the motive and love in the heart at the time.
You're comparing apples to sausage lol

The wages of sin is death.
While it may very well mean spiritual death, as in separation from God the type of sin doesn't matter.
All sin serves one purpose and one purpose only, to separate man from God.
Naturally raping a Child or committing murder is worse than telling a white lie or stealing a penny.
But the truth of the matter is they all serve to separate Man from God.
It is for this reason that Jesus Christ came into the world, that through Him we may have reconciliation with the Father.

Yes, it is very disturbing.
I have an uncle who is a serial child molester. Many of my "Christian" relatives knew about it for years and covered it up, thereby allowing him to continue molesting other young girls.
When the truth finally came out about him, those "Christian" relatives defended the pedophile and vehemently denounced the victims for coming forward because they claimed the victims sinned just as greatly by not attending church on the weekends.
Anyone who believes that failing to attend church is as great a sin as molesting at least half a dozen under-aged girls is deranged.

I think the verse "for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" is the most appropriate.
The key isn't that any sin is better or worse, but some have more a more permanent effect (such as murder).
Forgiveness is available for everyone.

What you are talking about is levels of inhumanity, offenses against man, and there are different levels of punishment for different levels of inhumanity (not God's punishment, but Man's punishment). There is only one level of sin in the eyes of God (according to God's word). Sin is sin because of the NATURE of sin, and it is the sin NATURE that is punished by God, and the punishment is death. The reason it is punishable by death is because of the nature of sin, which you would understand if you actually read the Bible. That is why everyone is in need of salvation... whether you steal a penny, or commit murder. Because God loves us, in spite of the fact that everyone has sinned against Him, he has provided a way for us to still be saved -- accepting the blood of Jesus as the payment for our sin. Jesus died in our place. His death paid the penalty for OUR sin. All you have to do is accept his blood as YOUR payment. If you are frightened, you should be if you are not saved, because the scriptures are very clear that, since you do not accept God's provision for you, then you, by your own choice, accept your punishment upon yourself... and that punishment is death. It is not GOD's desire (or Christians' desire) for you to perish... it is your own choice and your own will to rebel against God and His authority. THAT is the nature of sin, and the reason that the punishment is death for ALL sin. I, as a Christian, do not "require" you to be saved, and I will not "force" salvation upon you. However, I am saddened if you are not, because I know that the ultimate end for you is a sad one. As far as sanity goes, that is also a function of our fallen state. I question the sanity of someone who prefers death to life...

Christians and God, maintain that "a sin is a sin" in this context.....
whether you steal a dollar or murder a child, you are a sinner in God's eyes and cannot claim any moral highground just because your sin was only a "minor one".
there is NO minor sin.
that you are uncomfortable with God's Truth does not make it false.
Christians are not different because they know what God thinks.
that information is available to you also.
you just choose not to believe God.

True..but then again Christians have different degrees of sin, depending on how they socialize or to what group they cling to or where the cash is flowing, you have one consolation here and that is the knowledge that we are all headed for the same fate sinner or no sinner...and that is the big picture.
