Lots of people seem to distinguish people, things, actions etc by being right or wrong, good or evil, normal or abnormal. But does it occur to people that this line is so vague and unclear?

I've always said that 'good' and 'evil' are highly subjective terms. Israel's 'terrorists' are a Palestinian's 'Freedom Fighters'. The world is full of such differing perceptions that color how we treat others. It is getting harder and harder to find people who will admit their perceptions may, quite possibly, be either 'wrong' or 'not entirely true' - two other subjective terms. Many people today won't even listen to another person's opinion let alone bother to study other cultures and religions.

I'm pretty certain this has held true throughout world history, I've just become more aware of it around me. That happens when you study other cultures, belief systems and ethnic groups. You learn about them and many of your perceptions are challenged, if not completely destroyed.

The world IS chaotic. However, it is also an interesting place. If we were all the same and always agreed with each other it would quickly become very boring.

Unfortunately, the world IS really chaotic because everyone DOES insist their beliefs are right! The most dangerous belief is belief in god, however, because belief without evidence allows "believers" to justify anything (including blowing themselves up in the name of "god").

If only some people based their ideas on logic, empirical reality, rationality - ignored arguments from authority and used the scientific method of thought to keep themselves free of ignorance and charlatans.

Oh wait some people do - they're called atheists.

Its easy to construct systems of morality that every decent person could agree with. Good and Bad are not as arbitrary as you imply. There are principles of universality and altruism which we should adhere to.

as opposted to the way it is now?? Open your eyes. That is exactly the problem with the world today. Everyone is right and everyone else it wrong. Too many people believe "My path is the only true path to salvation." This goes for Christians, Muslims, Jews, Atheiest, Pagans , you name it.

Alas it is human nature to believe, I am right, and you are an idiot.
