Downgrading would require a clean install (i.e. wipe the disk clean). This could be risky if you bought your system as a Vista OEM and your only drivers on OEM-supplied media conform to the new Vista model. I wouldn't recommend trying this.
Vista is pretty nasty. The security works well, but it has many compatibility issues - not only with built-in hardware but also with printers and networking devices. Since you've made the commitment, cross your fingers. But make sure you try your system out with all the external hardware you depend on so you can make sure you can get your job done. If it's flakey, maybe there's still time to return it.
Most businesses are NOT buying Vista and are putting it off for at least a year if not two. My work refuses to even upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 because of the many compatibility issues.

Vista won't be 'safe' for a while. As its used more and more there will be more and more bugs revealed which Microsoft would have to patch. Normally my rule among many others is to wait until the first service pack to be released before purchasing a new operating system; this could be a wait of nearly a year or probably more. If I were you I would put Windows XP on your computer, especially if its something you're comfortable with. To do this however you would need a copy of Windows XP Pro. Also you might want to think of installing it on a seperate partition to your Vista which would allow you a dual boot option; this would use up more of your hard drive having both systems on it however you would be able to choose between them. It would also save you from having to reinstall Vista when you decide to switch to it permanently and get rid of your XP Pro.

If you have it you have it and if it is working it is working. The major issue with windows is some drivers for various components are not really ready as it takes the manufacturers a bit to catch up.
Thats why most knowledgable people are just going to wait before upgrading as everytime Windows upgrades there are some issues. But if you have already upgraded or it came with your computer just deal with it.
If you upgraded you can use either the restore disk that came with it or use the built in one on most computers...... by hitting one of the "f" keys during startup. This will return your computer to just like when you first got it.

Vista "safe?" That has to be the funniest thing on here yet.
You need to check out the "shout hack" that was already discovered. Basically, someone sends an audio file of someone shouting commands and Vista's speech recognition "hears" it on the speakers and issues those commands.

Vista only runs as safe as you can make it. If you don't know how to manage your OS, of course it's going to be unsafe.

If all you want is SECURITY than you better use LINUX.If you still want Windows only than ofcourse vista is more secure than XP.That's wat the vista has got to offer over XP.But there are more reasons why you should stick to XP
