Unless you're able to find a "European Wheel" that only has one green space (0) instead of two on the standard "American Wheel" (0 and 00), there's nothing you can do to improve your odds.

(On an American Wheel...)
On a bet on an individual number, you get paid 35 to 1 when the breakeven is 37 to 1.
On a red/black/odd/even bet, you get paid 1 to 1 when the breakeven is 1.11 to 1.
On a row bet, you get paid 11 to 1 when the breakeven is 11.67 to 1.
On a column bet, you get paid 2 to 1 when the breakeven is 2.17 to 1.

They all pay below what you need to break even. Every spin has a 5.3% house advantage, any way you cut it.

However, if you're going to play for fun, just bring a small amount of money that you can afford to lose and have fun. There's no strategy that can give you an edge, but as long as you bring what you can easily afford to lose you can have a good time.

There are some great explanations on the "house advantage", but none address the issue that Roulette is NOT a game of random chance. An experienced dealer DOES have the ability to get the ball to land in a specific number, or very close to it. If you are playing the "outside" this becomes even worse. On a '00' wheel, you bet $10 on Red. On each side of the Single Zero the pattern goes as follows:

Black - Red - Black - Green 0 - Black - Red - Black

In this section of 7 numbers there are 5 that will have you lose and only two where you win. This makes the house advantage soar. This pattern will hold true for all outside bets, not just the one illustrated. Red, Even, Odd, Columns...

You may want to consider finding someone betting large money on a color and go with the opposite. Also, throw $5 on the specific zero that is in the center of your color (Single zero for black and double zero for red)

Better yet, play something else.

The best advice has to be don't. The odds are stacked in favour of the casino owner, hence the green "0" or "00" space so that in the long term the house wins. Take up poker instead. At least that involves some element of skill. Roulette is just a lottery.

Yes, it's a game of chance and the odds are slightly in favour of the house, meaning that if you play it long enough you'll lose money. In the short term you MIGHT win. It's a lottery.

If you're going to a casino, perhaps you should try a game of skill instead of a game of luck?

If you want to make a small fortune from the roulette, start with a large one.

Stick to a budget, pick your numbers and hope you win the lottery of 37 -1.
