There are special rules for members of the military. I believe that your residence is determined by your domicile, not where your stationed.

Domicile is a much broader concept than where is your home. Where do you vote, where is your drivers license, where are the things that are near and dear to your heart, where do you intend to return after your military service is over.

I believe that you'll find the answer is NJ in the facts you've provided.

Your tax home is your home of record which is New Jersey. However, you can change your home of record where you are stationed.
