You'll want to have the Vet assure you that it is not something serious.

Usually they recommend Terramycin Eye ointment.

If you are talking about the tears that long haired dogs get, you pet your dog once a day... so clean out his eyes once a day while petting him.

Keep them very clean or it can stain the fur and cause the problem to get worse.

EPIPHORA is the name of the condition that some long haired dogs get where they tend to "cry" and that causes eye infections if you don't keep it cleaned up.

My mother n laws shih tzu has the hair surgically removed from around his eyes from a Vet in Washington DC. I don't know what it is called but they did it to reduce chances of the long haired breed dog eye problems.

go to the vet. and if ur maltese like mine has eye booger, than ask ur vet to give him some like contact cleener or something.
