I've paid union dues all year and feel i should be able to get something back.

Not on the 1040EZ you would have to use the 1040 and be itemizing your deductions on the Schedule A rather than taking the Standard deduction. Union Dues are deductible as an itemized deduction subject to the 2% reduction of your adjusted gross income. Publication 529

Union dues can only be deducted for federal if you itemize - you'd use schedule A and a 1040, not EZ. If you don't have itemized deductions more than your standard ($5150 for single) then you would not be able to take them. You would also have to adjust the amount of the deduction depending on your income.

You might be able to get something back on them on your state taxes, depending on where you live. In PA you could deduct them on your state return.

But if you are filing a 1050EZ then you probably don't have enough deductions to itemize instead of taking the standard deduction. You probably won't have enough expenses to exceed the 2% AGI threshold to deduct unreimbursed employee expenses.
