I have liked a guy for a long time now and we have become quite good friends but he has been in a 'long-term' relationship for about 18 months now and they have just broken up. How can I comfort him as well as let him know I want him? And how long should I wait? Obviously recovery time is needed?

Just make him feel like you care about him and want him to be happy. Don't push yourself on him it will not work out so well, because if your his rebound girl, when he's feeling better he might see that things wen't to quick for him and back out of the relationship. Show him affectionately that you are their for him. then after a week or two when he starts feeling a little better, slowly move in on him. Slowly flirt a little bit, and be cute and affectionate. He will start seeing these qualities in you that turn him on, and he will realize that you have been here all along and that maybe you are the one he's wanted for so long.

You question - "How can I make him see I want him?" -- I'm sure has been asked before, life seems to pose this situation more often than not.

A couple things:

1) First, a man or woman cannot "make" another want them. They can in a lustful way, but in a relationship type situation, it has to be mutual. So do not force this on anyone. This is where one learns patience, and sometimes heartbreak. Be prepared for that.

2) Yes, recovery time IS NEEDED any any relationship. I read an article years ago that said for every year a person is together it takes 4-6 months to "fully recover". Now mind you this is an estimate and not a one-size fits all.

So in conclusion, I would say give him time and space. Do not crowd him. You are friends and continue to be friends. And patience - although be prepared for heartbreak. In his hurt he may reach out for the wrong kind of woman to help the heal - don't let yourself be that girl.

Good Luck.

I think at the moment you don't want to take advantage of him because he's vulnerable, he's just come out of a relationship with someone he loved so he is going to need time to get over that. You don't want to be 'just a rebound' I suggest you let him know your there for him if he needs to talk about it, and suggest going out somewhere like town etc. Just keep the friendship up for a while, and when he stops bringing his ex into convos hes over her. If he tries it on you could say, I do like oyu but I don't want this to be a rebound for you, or me to take advantage etc and I'm sure he'll really appreciate that you like him a lot and want to be more than a rebound. Hope it works out for you both

I would definitely wait until he is ready, and when the time is right the best way would be clear open communication about how you feel. However, if you don't want to tell him through words, I've always been smitten by love letters.

What ever happened to the traditional roles? Men should approach the woman. Be there for him and show genuine interest. If he feels even a chance of a romantic connection, he will let it be known.

You seemed to have your head screwed on well enough without all the dangerous suggestions above. You are a girl, he is a boy, if you are around him as he gets over his last relationship, he is bound to figure it all out for himself.

Just be your wonderful self and let cupid do his thang! ;-)

Hi,

Time is very precious so go for it now this second pronto!

Tell him that you "agree there are plenty of fish in the sea, but he actually made an lasting impression on you"

Good luck!

I would tell him that you know he is hurting and that you don't want to rush him, but that, in time you would like to get to know one another better. His response should give you a good indication as to whether this is something he will consider.

In fact I would say now is a good time to swoop. When people are on the rebound they are more receptive to advances. Strike while the going's good.

May be so but physical work can wash away any recovery time!
