There is a very yappy poodle next door. When I moved in, my boyfriend often fantasized about ways to shut the dog up, but never told the owner, but hated the dog nonetheless. So, being teh peacemaker I am, I get friendly with the neighbor, meet little Butters and now my boyfriend is better about Butters and we even joke about having Butters over for a playday. SO, the neighbor apologizes for the yapping the other day and he says, oh, it is okay, we even joke about it now, and how we like Butters. She seemed rather put off by this. What gives?

She'll get over it.... It will blow over. Just be friendly and nice.

She is probably a little hurt and embarrassed that the dog bothered you. Saying its OK now makes her feel like she is still responsible and let you down.

Say something like... I'm glad butters lets me know if anybody comes through my yard... it makes me feel safer.

That might help. (I've had similar problems with neighbors.)

This is a good example where your private conversation should have stayed private. The dog owner didn't like negative comments about the dog. Make a peace offering - a toy or treats for the dog. Be friendly, be yourselves and with time, the owner will forget about it.

The woman obviously has the dog so people will focus all their bad energy on the dog, leaving only good energy for her. So, when she found out you like the dog, you have bad energy left for her. Now she'll need to go out and get a bigger pain in the neck for you, her neighbors, to focus on.

LOL

Perhaps practicing the art of smiling into someone's eyes when offering a plate of goodies, whilst delivering a good swift kick on the side is in order.

She's obviously just a b*tch, and doesn't deserve that darling little pooch. Can't you tell that dog is literally screaming for you help? Why not give HER the poison steak and make everybody happy?

Problem solved, you're welcome!

Maybe the neighbor didn't realize you didn't
appreciate her baby in the past, and it offended her
"i love my dog, why don't you?" sensibilities.

This woman clearly has a lesbian crush on you and was probably poking her dog with a stick so that you would come over and complain and she could offer to buy you lunch to mend fences.

It wasn't what your husband said that bothered her, it his damnable exisance that vexed her.
