The Catholic church is a business.

Much of the Vatican's enormous wealth is steeped in tradition. The Vatican houses millions in the form of exquisite jewelry, statues, paintings, antique maps, and various other precious gifts presented to the Popes throughout the centuries. Many are one of a kind. These gifts came from kings, princes, presidents, chieftans, dictators. To sell any part of this vast collection would tarnish the name of the pope who was the recipient at the time, and it could still insult the people of the country representing the gift. It would be a terrible breach of etiquette to sell off any of these gifts. Like other churches, the Vatican has ministries to assist the poor. Mother Theresa's name is on several. But there are so many poor and desperate people in the world, it really would take assistance from every resourceful corner of the globe. Remember also, that many powerful countries and people make pledges of money during disasters which really affect the poor , but rarely do they deliver what they promised.

Why pick on the Vatican? What have you given this month?
The church is helping all around the world now. Ministry's like Mother Theresa's are in operation now, How many do you support now?
You are going to make a good liberal as you are already practicing your Christian Bashing and hate speech.
I am betting you have given nothing yourself in the last six months to any charity yet you look down on the Vatican as morally inferior to yourself. They have been around for centuries and accumulated goods you desire yourself. If I am wrong I am sorry all you have to do is acknowledge that the church has many wonderful programs and charities and you are grateful or if I am right you can continue running your mouth about others and continue doing nothing for others except find made up faults

They are too busy selling off their assets to pay for lawsuits.

Its a very good question because the instruction from Jesus is to sell your worldly possessions and give the proceeds to the poor and then go teach. So simple. But then the council of Nicea turned the whole of Christianity over to the church of Nimrod and it became a den of satan killling off or driving out the true Christians. Too bad.

For the same reason...
* Halliburton doesn't sell its assets
* The White House doesn't budge on its hoarding of world resources
* The Saudi princes in Arabia don't sell its wealth
* The whealthy Muslims don't give up on their riches
* Hollywood doesn't scale down its luxurious way of life
* Huge transnational corporations don't give up on squeezing the throats of poor countries and plundering the environment...

... so that the poor can have some respite.

Got it?

Beats me.
My wife is involved in an inter-denominational charity organization and the Roman Catholic church seems to be the least concerned with the needs of the poor in their community.
They're very involved in political movements, though. Maybe the purpose of all that opulence is to give them political clout.

How would they pay their priests to stay and teach?
How would they let the pedophiles go free?

Heaven forbid the pope should actually have to find out that poverty is a virtue, instead of preach it.

And for those that are saying give your money, i don't have the money and i acknowledge that. I don't turn around and say you should dripping in gold and Da Vinci.

Why doesn't the Baptist church to that? Why don't any church people do that?

Jesus said that is the path to salvation "Sell all that ye possess and give all to the poor, and come follow me."

Their religion is nothing like the religion Jesus had. If he could somehow come back to life, his first order of business would be to cast everyone into Hell...
