If you feed the dog regularly with a decent brand of dog food, there is no need for vitamins, unless the vet claims there is; get a second opinion.
There are products that claim to enhance coats or the dog's skin, but those aren't always vitamins.

I give my dog a generic dog and cat vitamin from Petco. Some habits (ie, eating poop) she has are supposedly remedied with multivitamins, so we started giving her half of a vitamin (she's only 8 pounds) every day. We've only been giving her the vitamins for week, so I can't say if they're really doing anything or not, but I think giving dogs vitamins is a good idea.

Human multivitamins, definitely not, since they are not designed for a dog. They do make dog multivitamins and are a good idea to ensure healthy tissues. If you are limiting your dogs food intake due to weight issues then you should supplement. Other wise a well rounded dog food will have the essential vitamins and minerals your dog will need.

Missing Link Canine and Feline Formula's.

They are a green powder and you sprinkle it on their food and they eat it just fine and it has improved their skin and coats.

It is easy to get in their systems without fighting with a pill or stressing over a liquid. Just sprinkle some green powder over the top and they eat it without even noticing.

It has also helped the cat that likes to cough up hairballs.

I have older pets so that is why we add it in to their diet.
