I have many and only one of them hurt, its on my inner ankle . Its not that it hurts, its more that its very annoying because when they color they keep going over the same spot so it gets irritated. But painful not really. Just think about what you want, make it worth it. I regret 1 of the 5 I have .. And Im thinking of covering it up! So make sure its something you really want! As for the person that said the needles are used over and over again, not all placed use the same ones. Some use brand new ones everytime and if they don't they have what I think is called an autoclay machine to steralize thiem.. Research your tattoo place before just picking anyone!

Getting tattooed does hurt but not unbearably how it feels depends on where you get tattooed some skin is easier than others the outer forearms and the ear have been the least painful for me so far the sternum and the palms of the hands and elbows the worst. I have noticed that frequently but not always that people getting small tattoos tend to regret them or chalk it up to being young and stupid but if you get a larger piece the higher pain, commitment and expense tend to cause people to think about what they are getting more. resulting in a tattoo that is a genuine work of art and can usually be incorporated more easily into more work should you decide to later. if you go out and get a small tattoo just because its something crazy to talk to your friends about next weekend or because its your birthday and want to feel rebelious then you will be more likely to regret it hence it not being worth it.

I have large and small ones, location makes a difference. For the ones on my ears I cried like a baby, couldnt help it, the tears just rolled right out. The ones on my arms and legs were a piece of cake. Shoulder, could hardly even feel it. My neck hurt more from holding it an an akward angle than from the tattoo. I would have to say all 24 tattoos I have were worth it!

Different tattooists have certain places they wont tattoo, like face or neck. Dont believe all the hype about tattoos. They dont hurt half as much as some people make out. Some places do hurt more than others, but its worth gritting your teeth and putting up with the pain for the end result.

I have a fairly small tattoo on my stomach. I have sensitive and very fair skin so yeah, areas of it did hurt, but other areas were completely fine and overall is was tolerable. It's hard to explain what it felt like. Some parts I didn't even notice it, then others it was a little more painful. It was definitely worth it to me. It took maybe 45 minutes to get done, and it was worth every second. As long as you know what you want to keep on your body for the rest of your life, you'll be fine.

I have a small tattoo on my right ankle and yes it was worth it i love it!! I am a complete and utter wuss when it comes to needles and pain and got myself some Emla cream from the chemist. Emla cream is fab just put half the tube on the area about an hour before tattooing and it goes numb so you don't feel a thing lol works a treat. Am going for another one doing.

Where you get it, well... it's basically up to you. And these days, I don't think tattoo artists will shy away from any area! I have 2 tattoos... 1 about 4"x2" on my lower back (black) and another 1.5"x1.5" on the top/side of my foot (color). I seem to remember the lower back hurting more than the foot.... but I think the black parts hurt more than color. it basically feels like a bee sting.... but about 10 times/second - and that lasts for as long as it takes to get it done. You kind of get used to the feeling for the most part... only a few squinting moments =) If it means anything, these 2 aren't my last!

i have had tiny tattoos and i have had huge tattoos. the longer you get worked on the more it hurts. but the place you get tattooed really does matter as far as pain. all of my tattoos have hurt, some more than others. it's hard to describe what it feels like. i guess a constant cat scratch. totally worth it! i will hopefully be getting tattooed in a month and i can't wait!!!

and you can pretty much get tattooed anywhere that you have skin. the individual tattoo artist is the one that makes a decision on where he or she will tattoo. some won't tattoo genitals, necks and hands.

Oh God yes it hurt, especially when he got to the spine, I was seeing black spots! But it is totally worth it. It feels like hot pain, that is the only way I can describe it! Although it was worth it but you must get the creams and prepare to make sure it is moisturised and kept clean cause I have seen one that went septic and the girl did nothing about it. It ended up cracking and you could see her skin in between the colours. Just drink plenty of water before you go, keep hydrated so you don't end up passing out and pick wisely! trust me, you will not regret it!

it depends on if there is a lot of details in the tattoo to how much it hurts along with the placing. a small square tattoo wont hurt as much as one with swirls etc as it will take longer etc.
no tattoo is pain free but it is worth the pain you get and most people say its not as bad as people often think. as soon as the needle leaves the skin it stops hurting. it feels like a graze or cat scratch really.
avoid areas of fat such as your bum and stomach as they tend to hurt more, if you are going for lower back right on top of the spine is less painful that the sides of the back due to the amount of nerves.
good luck.
