I would suggest you start by doing the work on your own. Credit repair companies do the exact same thing you can do, but charge you quite a bit.

The problem with most consumers is they just don't know the law, or understand the procedure you need to follow. It's all in the links below.

The TRUTH About Credit Repair...

Have you ever wondered what companies
send you when they claim you can erase
bad credit overnight? How about those
ads that say you can get any major
credit
card without a deposit or a credit
check?

Ads abound almost everywhere
these days (online and off) selling
books, systems and secrets to
help you fix your credit. Many
of these programs have claims
which read like the covers of
supermarket tabloids:

"In 3hrs my credit score jumped
from 580 to 676!"...

"Erase bad credit and smash your
debts with just 2 Magic Letters!".

Are these types of claims ALWAYS
too good to be true? The answer is
"Yes and... no".

While many people would love for
you to believe the only thing that
can fix bad credit is time; in
reality... nothing could be further
from the truth. The fact is, time
is only one factor which can fix
a credit report, but it's a far cry
from being the only factor. How
can I back this up? Easy.

Under a consumer protection law
known as the Fair Credit Reporting
Act (a.k.a. the FCRA) the only
negative information which can
remain on your credit report is
not what is accurate... but what
can be proved as accurate under
the FCRA. What's this mean
to you?

It means any negative item on
your credit report can only remain
there if it is accurate and CAN
BE PROVED AS SUCH under the
guidelines of the FCRA. This
undisputable fact presents
consumers with both good
news and bad news.

The good news is that through
the FCRA your credit score can
most likely be improved dramatically
in a very short period of time with
only a modest amount of effort on
your part.

The bad news is that while the
actual "work" will take very little
of your time, it is vital that you
have good information on "how"
to go about it. This is the bad
news; 9 out of 10 courses on
restoring your credit will do nothing
more than lead you into snake
pits because they will provide
you with what the industry refers
to as "Boiler Plate" dispute letters.
These are nothing more than form
letters and... quite frankly (more
bad news) the Credit Bureaus and
Creditors will laugh at you if you
try to use them.

While I agree with the Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) that "Anything a
Credit Repair Clinic can do for you
legally, you can do for yourself at
little or not cost"... the key element
you need for success is the latest
inside techniques and procedures
to get the results you want. This
involves strategies such as "Proof
of Contract", "Constructive Notice",
"Challenge of Procedure" or
"Restrictive Endorsement" and many
others.

All these terms may "sound" impressive
but they are really quite simple. In
the
end, it is nothing more than a method
of communication which exercises your
consumer protection rights, gets the
results you want and raises your credit
score. Even more impressive, once you
learn how simple it can be by doing it
for
yourself, you will find there is a
fortune
to be made doing it for others! Either
way, it all starts by requesting a free
copy of your credit report here:

You A Fortune?"

You can challenge anything on your report. The bureaus have 30 days to remove or correct the incorrect information. It is illegal for credit repair companies to collect funds up front so you may see a billing for "credit education" then the "free service" is credit repair. Don't use these companies.

If the bureaus remove the challenged information and it is later substantiated (supported by the creditor) it just goes back on your report.

Generally the public data stream is where judgments are taken from. To be substantiated, the credit bureau is required to find 2 sources of this information. The judgment comes off if the bureau doesn't do the work. If the creditors are contacted about old information, they may also ignore the request because it would cost them bucks in manpower to research the request. These are the "tricks" the credit repair companies use. You could pay about $1500 for their services. You can make your own inquiries free.

The FACTA (www.ftc.gov) law gives you the right to have accurate information on your report. The burden of proof is on the creditors reporting the information. It is thru this loop hole that these companies operate.

The most important part of your report is the past 24 months. Collections fall off paid or not in 7 years from the last activity date. Know your state's "debt statute of limitations" (google the words) and you will know how long you could be sued about a debt (written contract). There were on sample letters on the ftc site the last time I looked regarding how to challenge information but you really don't need the samples. I also recommend understanding credit - go to www.myfico.com under "learn", before you start planning what to do. Good luck.

There is no such thing. Proper personal finance management is the only thing that will eliminate bad credit and it doesn't happen overnight. It takes months and sometimes years. Oh and by the way, I checked out debteliminater.com and it is just another website trying to take advantage of people with poor credit. This is just an advertisement. I mean really, would you trust YOUR finances with anyone that couldn't spell eliminator?

There are ONLY THREE legitimate credit restoration companies in the United States. I know all three of them and I only recommend one of them. If you want to know who they are, please email me at nebula7693@yahoo.com and I will give you the information.

Please don't make the mistake of trying to do this on your own. I can tell you dozens of horror stories about people who have tried to do it on their own and failed. Or who have tried to do it on their own and met with limited success.

Of course I can tell you stories of people who have successfully done it on their own. But those people usually only had one or two line items to dispute. If you feel you can do it yourself, I suggest you try the links provided by Mr. Studly above. They are good resources. But when you hit that brick wall that you will inevitably hit, I will still know who the three legitimate credit restoration companies are who can help you.

Best of luck to you.

Apparently there are people who think that they know everything but don't. There IS such a thing as good credit repair services. I used one so I know for a fact that they work. I don't know if I could have done it myself, but I DO know that they did a great job for me. I hope this helps you.
