99% of the time it is saline for hydration until a doctor prescribes medication to be given to you.

There is no specified "typical" I.V. drip. What is given to an individual within an I.V. drip is dependent on why the person needs it. It is also dependent upon the unit that a patient is in. An I.V. could be an anti-arrbythic, a vasodilator/nitrate, a vasodilator, a narcotic analgesic, a pancreatic hormone, a diuretic, an anti-coagulant, an anti-hypertensive, vitamins, glucose...you name it!

I have fluid build up in my ankles, I am taking blood pressure medication but none of the diuretics are working, I went into the hospital for a DNC and was given an IV afterward I went to the bathroom the amount of fluid I pushed out my ankles went to a normal size, but now they are swollen and tight again, I would like my Dr. to prescribe if possible whatever is in the drip, it is the only thing that helps.

it depends on what you have an IV for. I would think typically it is for hydration...therefore saline seems to be the best answer
