I am making Manhattans for a cocktail party this weekend and haven't been able to find Angostura bitters. What is a good (hoepefully cheaper!) bitters replacement that will still tatse relatively good? I am located in the UK, if that makes any difference.

I have tended bar for over a decade and from my experience you don't need bitters in a Manhattan. You usually put a dash in an old fashioned, but put sweet vermouth in a Manhattan. A good alternative may be to make brown mumblers, which is a Manhattan with added maraschino cherry juice added. Garnish with something cool like a cherry , an orange slice and a slice of starfruit if available. Cheers!

I add a couple of Ricola Herb Cough Drops to a Canadian Whiskey - such as Hunter Rye.
Let dissolve for a day.

i would use a rind of orange peel..... then you can just drink with out the bitterness and you can leave it in the glass...no juice that may leave pulp which changes the consistency..
