First it depends on how you straighten it. I've had hairstylists tell me to use a heat protector gel on my hair before I use the iron on it. You can call a salon and as about it. I don't use anything, but I do take vitamins to help strengthen my hair. Try to not brush it out, but comb it out. Also, get regular hair trims to make sure you get the dead ends of so there isn't as much breakage.

I buy the straighting shampoos and conditioners. I also try to deep condition at least once a week and this helps with the breakage. I also try to give my hair a rest whenever possible from the straightening iron. I almost never blow dry my hair and that helped a lot. I wash it at night and let it dry naturally and just straighten it when I get up in the morning. I started using Pantene products several years ago and my hair looks better than it has in a long time, you might want to try their stuff.

Roberta, there are products that you can put on your hair prior to straightening it with the straightening iron or blow-drying it that will protect it from damage. I like Heat Seeker Hot Straight by L'Oreal Studio Line, but a lot of brands make good products. Look in the line they have for taming/controlling frizzy hair or volume and you'll find it.

You should also switch to shampoo and conditioner that promote straighter hair, from these same lines, or for damaged hair prevently, and deep-condition your hair at home once a week.

Oh yeah, and since you'll be straightening already, stay away from hair color, and if you must, go with a really gentle one, without amonia, like Garnier Nutrisse. One source of damage is enough.

Hi, try to only wash and straighten hair every two, or three days. If you do it well it should last ok with only touch ups. Also make sure to use some type of oil or silicone product in the hair before drying and pressing, Also use a high quality iron, makes all the difference. Have fun!!!!

I wash/blow dry/straighten my hair every day, which is halfway down my back. My first step is with a hair dryer and a huge round brush. Then, I follow up with a flat iron to make is super straight. The best product that I have found so far is Biosilk Silk Therapy. It truly does make my hair feel like silk...and it smells fabulous!

Silk Therapy has silk proteins that are activated by heat to penetrate and provide protection for your hair and to improve your hair's condition.

I also have my hair trimmed regularly and give it "rest days" if I am not going anywhere.

well.. in a way yeah you are damaging your hair because of the heat. what you should do is go to the beauty supply store and buy some non damaging hair spray for heat on hair. but i would not really consider doing that all of the time cause then your hair would start to break off. I hope this helped =]

I suggest that you use natural ingredient shampoos and conditioners like ShiKai and Burt Bees in order to keep your hair healthy. I also suggest that you use a heat protecting serum like Citre Shine Spray to protect your hair when you use iron.

no not really. I straighten mine every day and my hair`s healthy. If you can go to the hair salon you should get Halo or Simpily Basic. Those shampoos really help my hair stay healthy.
