How can I make my pc come out of standby faster?

My pc, (athlon64, Windows Vista, 1Gb ram) takes 30 seconds to come out of standby (not hibernate but S3 standby). My laptop and my daughters pc both come out within 5 secs. any ideas how i can speed mine up? (it took just as long when it had just the OS on and no other software. also took as long with XP on)

Review your startup menu and load or "bring back to life" only those programs you need daily. For anything else you should be able to wait a few seconds.
