Tough situation, but you will be all the better for it if you learn how to cope.
1. Avoid situations where the bullies can victimize you. Avoid isolating yourself; as much as possible, have a constant companion. Bullies often work in packs, or there could be a dominant character with an eager audience.
2. Learn to think quickly. Talk your way out of the situation. Bullies enjoy the power they have over you. They relish it when they see you cringe in fear. Look into their eyes. Stand tall. Talk with a strong, steady voice. Use jokes. Find out what the bullies like. By standing up to them this way, that will give them a chance to withdraw without losing face. They don't like to fight with someone who does not fear them.
3. Develop your physical agility. Go to the gym, join sports. Bullies prefer to pick on those who appear physically weak, or those that do not look like they can hurt back. Bullies do not like receiving pain themselves.
4. Report the episode to the authorities and document every incident. If they gave you a bruise, take a picture of it, and put down the exact date, location and time when it occurred. Sometimes the behavior continues because those with influence are unaware of what is going on.
5. Please do your best not to react to the tauntings. The less you react to them when they want to irritate you, the less reason they have for picking on you.
6. The situation is temporary, you have the option to move to another school, another workplace; you have the option to change your environment. Your life will be much quieter.

Depends on the situatin and your local laws. Can you physically defend yourself, can they be avoided at no cost to you?
Sometimes it is better to walk away. I don't know your age but sometimes parents are needed or the police. Remember a good deal of a bully's power comes from fear, not actual violence, but if your life is in danger, I will repeat this, call the authorities.

Surprise is the best element you can have. When I was in the military, we used to practice the Combat Hitting Skills. If you can get behind this bully, you want to stealthily move in, jump on his back, and at the same time, place you feet in the back of his knees, and wrap your arms around his throat. When you bear down on him, your feet will be on the back of his knees, and as he comes down, this will dislocate his knees, if done right. Happy hunting, and always stand up for yourself.

I remember working in a machine shop years ago. there was one guy called "The nurd" who was picked on by everyone especially by a friend of mine named Jesse.
I told the Nurd once he should smack Jesse. The Nerd told my "Jesse would kill me" I told Jesse this and he admitted he would have beaten him up but he also admited he would have stopped picking on him.
In my opinion in most cases it would stop if you fight back and they realize that their picking on you will result in nothing but trouble even if they know they will prevail.
I'm sure all the do gooders on here won't aprove of my opinion but I live in the real world dealing with people only respect strength

If you can't laugh at them , and walk away, then by all means take action. Perhaps take a self defense class, and whip some butt. The weak shall prevail!

Your choice is to make the bully go away or always be his victim. I told my kid to knock him down and kick him till he quit moving.

If you have no choice but to fight back, then do so. But, it is always best to just look at him like he doesn't get to you, shake your head as you're walking away. Fighting should be your last resort.

If you can take them then fight them. Why not?
It is better to do violence, if it is violence that is in your heart, then to don the cloak of pacifism if only to hide impotence. - Mahatma Gandhi
