This is a big thing and from your posting seems you have never even attempted a go at confectionery. You can read all the guides on the planet and if you haven't got the knack of making things like flowers for a cake it just will not work. Hopefully you do......try making one as in YESTERDAY! and if you have any doubts tell your friend now you are not up to it. Remember all eyes will be on the cake as well as the bride. Good luck!!PS I know some bakers get ready made flowers, think from abroad, they are lovely but do not know how easily accessable they are and going by the price I know someone paid for a cake with these I imagine pricey.

Check out your local craft store for any cake decorating classes they might offer. I know that Michael's, the craft store, offers such classes (as well as many others). My other suggestion would be to go to a book store or library and get a book for beginner cake decorators. Also here is a free site with some tips on the subject: http://www.pastrywiz.com/wedding/wedding5.htm

you can buy the cakes from marks and spencers tesco and asda.
they come iced you can get traditional fruit cake and sponge then all you need to do is decorate it.

You could put ribbon round it in the same colour as the theme and you can get books on cake decorating that will help you make iced flowers

I am a cake decorator. Ask away.

For some websites that can help you,
www.cakecentral.com and www.baking911.com.

You can also purchase premade flowers online. Just Google
"gumpaste flowers" and you'll have your pick of sources.

I would not make flowers from icing ... I would just do pretty chains and little stars and garlands and then just before the reception, put around the cake some beautiful rosebuds and pretty little flower bunches.and pretty ferns ...... maybe you can get organically-raised flowers?

I would go on the Wilton Website or take a class conducted by them.
