I am sorry for what happened in the past, but I know for a fact that none of my ancestors had a slave. We can't really apologize on the behalf of people who lived hundreds of years ago, they had nothing to do with me for a start. I do have to say that people in Africa also had slaves so we are not the only race guilty of it. Slavery still happens right now in some parts of the world. I'm just glad that we don't do it anymore. If we were I'd be the first one on a protest!! = ) Plus alot of welsh people were quakers who moved to America and I have read that they were against slavery. So where I'm from we were never really guilty of it. I also read that alot of Welsh people helped slaves to freedom, in the underground railroad?? I read it along time ago so not sure about that last bit! lol.

The USA is only 230 years old.
The indigenous people who populated the North American continent were practicing slavery when the white folks got there and brought their own brand of oppression in the late 17th century (this is the seventh year of the 21st century).
What difference does the color of a persons skin make? Are you saying the religions practiced by African blacks are more peaceful and humane than others? Are you saying there is no slavery practiced on the African continent? I beg to differ. If you will just look at their history - before and after the arrival of Europeans - you will see a different picture. They are people too.
Religion (any religion) certainly doesn't make one perfect. Religion is man reaching out to God. Christianity is God reaching out to man. We people have murdered and oppressed our brothers since the beginning. Only since Christians have enlightened the world to the plights of others and the goodness of God have the majority of people started saying, "Wait a minute, that's not right!"

John Calvin (1509-1564) a Swiss minister came to the rescue of slavery by inventing a new religion called “Calvinism”. It was tailor made to ease the guilt of slave traders, slave owners and (would you believe?) slaves themselves.
Under this doctrine, God has decreed that the surest way to heaven was, as he called it, “by the sweat of the brow”. The more difficult and oppressive life was the surer your chances of heaven. This calmed the slaves into acceptance and gave them hope as we hear in many “negro” spirituals. It helped them to make it through life despite the many atrocities against them. Kept them in the fields longer rather than getting an education because work was their only hope.
For the slave master it was ideal. According to Calvin, slave owners should be proud because they were hand picked by God to oversee a race of half human half beast who could not otherwise survive on their own. Slave owners actually believed they were doing God’s work and eased them of tremendous guilt trip.
To be fair, not all Christians held to this dogma. In the north especially, and foremost among them, the Quakers, were willing to go to war to right this wrong which resulted in the Civil War.
The Calvinists later changed their name to Baptists, which is why there are so many Southern Baptists.

Because that was then and this is now.
On a more simplistic level . . . A person might ask . . .
.
How can I ever love again...my heart has been broken so many times ?
.
How can I ever be a success...I don't have a certain degree ?
.
How can I ever have a happy life...my childhood was so messed up ?
.
How can I ever trust again . . . I've been mislead so many times ?
.
The Romans did this to my people . . . The Germans did this to my people . . . The settlers did this to our Native American people . . .Someone did this to my heart . . .
I am ' white ', that is my skin color. What other white ancestors did so many years ago is what they did. . . that is them, it is not who I am or my mind thought.
This may sound rude, yet, I'll share it here . . . I wish people would just " Get over it already ".
Oppression put on them by a a former spouse, a bully, a culture, another race, poverty . . . That was then...I live in the Now. I won't hold myself emotional hostage to any past events in my life. I gift myself to living in the now, healing, and moving forward in my life.
Slaves are of past ill minded events. To sit in a church celebrating who you are today...To pay honor to all who have brought about a free lifestyle...To honor those such as Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King...not to keep living in opressive thoughts...the time is long overdue to just move on.

Yes your right, matter of fact the bible and religion was used to suppress the black man to always be obedient to the slave master. We have come a long way from those days but have a lot to do so that all men can be free.

The corner stone of the Islamic faith is the belief in one and only sole Creator and Sustainer of the entire universe who alone deserves worship and obedience. The same God has created all human beings, irrespective whether you are rich or poor, whether a male or female, whether black or white, whichever caste, colour, creed you belong to – all humans are equal – they are created by the one and only Creator, Almighty God.
Christianity is not a true religion.......................will u follow a religion made by man???? bible have so many different versions....one say pork is allowed one say pork is not allowed...is god gettting confused???? and i know how they treat the black people??!!!

The preachings of Christ are the basics of Christianity. True followers of the teachings of Christ would have nothing to do with slavery anywhere. But it is difficult for ordinary human beings to practice everything that was taught by the great divine teacher. Also, do not forget the role of benevolent masters who loved and protected their slaves. Slavery has nothing to do with Christianity.

Slightly lame question really, considering not all black or white people were Christan's at that time or is today
Try asking the question on "who sold the black man into slavery"

you really should do more research before you ask a question,
slavery is obscene but it does still exist in some countries and the slaves are not black.
The first statement you make is incorrect as well there were black slave masters who owned slaves the same as whites
